This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
At first, I was just playing around with Photoshop. But by the time it came to adding the textures, I just couldn't stop until the it was done!
I was constantly tweaking between 20 layers until I was perfectly satisfied with every little detail. My little brother (who's in my room playing his Gameboy Advance at the moment) also helped along the way by deciding multiple variations of the wallpaper when it was still incomplete.
The background, however, were various stock photos carefully laced together. Now the little two-line quote at the top is from the translation of Anata no Ireba. Anyone who's familiar with the Cardcaptor Sakura series would know that it's the character duet between Sakura and Tomoyo.
And with the simple pen tool... Voila! The finish product :)
I personally don't like the really thick outline around her. XD I really like the textures, though. Although I think it would be better if the floral texture was seamless, I like it anyway. The text looks nice the way it is, but you could try adding more subtle decorations to it and see if it works.
I think the background is good and sakura looks nice, but i also have to say that i don't like the thick outline. maybe you should keep the outline but make it thinner? it still looks good tho, i like it.
I really love the cloth-like pattern present in the background! It really works well with the colors in the scan. I also love the textures you've placed around the piece. It really gives the image some life. :)
Anyways, the only thing I don't like is the pic of Sakura. Its a great wall, but I've just seen too many CCS walls, and all with the same pictures all over again. I like her expression but...
I dunno, try it with another pic?
