This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.

This is my second wallpaper plus the first one which has received many positive comments.
First of all i'd like to say that the main part of the background is the work of Ri Kai - http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/2007112/ . His picture is awesome. When I saw it I decided to make a wp. I just had to make a wp.
The idea is simple. It's the battle brtween Asuka and the SE. It's somewhat of a climax of the action part of the show And we all know the end of the story. And IMHO it's not optimistic. So there was no happiness in their lifes (Asuka, Rei, Shin) just mere illusions and nothing more. Each of them had one's own personal problems that couldn't be solved. The wallpaper is greyscale to show this mood of hopeless life. And the pose of Rei is for the same purpose.
The process of making took about a week plus some time for miscellanious improvements

First time to be the first to comment! YEAH!!! First of all... I think this wall is really nice... also because I always love greyscale. And reading your description, the greyscale simply fits in so well with the mood you wanted to present. Kudos to that!

I realy nice wallpaper love the background, awsome. One thing however, I think that the scan of Rei doesn't realy fit into the scene, I think you should have gotten rid of it and concentrated more on the background. But it is fav, grate work!
This paper is amazing. It expresses the feeling given to Rei's character, and the black & white blending adds depth to the background, and blends well with the scan used. Very nice work.
Using someone else's artwork verbatim as a background doesnt make you look too good as a waller. It makes you look more like a ripper than not.
I don't see what justifies your use of his fanart. even if it IS fanart, his work was already a wallpaper to begin with. So its like just downloading a wall, and slapping a scan on it. =/

the orginal piece isn't a wallpaper actually, unless you own a monitor with such a radical resolution.
I have experience with this piece, since I used on a wall as well, which was deleted, even though I gave the artist credit, quite frankly I don't see whats keeping YOURS still on the site. :shrugs: as w00t said though, the originality factor is on the ground. There are a hundred better things you can do with a Rei vector, especially such a good one.
Hey Nice work on this wallpaper but I dont like The Black white mix colour . I think this wallpaper will look alot better if you got some Colours on it wiht the Sunset. I'm Telling you this because you have such a nice wallpaper that i can't even make ^^ i hope you will do it I will be looking for on it and some other ppls 2

The concept is beautiful. to see rei posing like that, it's juz brilliant. but the main point is the theme of the wallpaper. it's good seeing Asuka fighting the SE, but what has Rei gotta do with it? it puzzles me, but i don't care nonetheless. it's nice, and it'll be my fav.
