This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I recently began watching Mushishi because several of my friends have pointed out parallels between this series and one of my favorites, Kino no Tabi. So far I've been enjoying the series a lot, for much of the same reasons I love Kino. So I decided to wall it. I was mucking around looking for some good scans when I noticed part an OST scan showing Ginko smoking on AnimePaper - but it was only half of Ginko. Digging around some more, I found a whole scan of the image, so it was time to trace! I reduced the colors even more than the original scan - the darkest shadows on Ginko's coat is the same as the black background so he sort of blends into it. The smoke mushi idea came from the first episode where Ginko uses his cigarillo to control a smoky mushi. I decided to have ghostly smoky mushi shapes coming out of his cigarillo. They were free-drawn based on various sketches characters look at in the series. And since everything else was smoky I made the show's title rise out of the smoke too. Very noir.

Yes Mushishi is one of my fave anime's. I like this wall mainly cuz it pinpoints that bit of mystery that the manga and anime holds. The transforming mushi from the cigarette smoke really works well for the black bg. It's dark and mysterious and so characteristic of Mushishi I'll have to fave it, really great work too~
Tama-Neko, i love you so terrifically much for this wallpaper. Mushishi is one of my favorite animes (so is Kino No Tabi, but Ginko wins most of the time.) and while i think you could've done a little more than a simple trace, the simplicty of it all is what makes Mushishi what it is - therefore, +fav and 's to you.
Mushishi is such a great anime, and I have the person above me to to thank for recommending it to me, on the same basis as you; its similar to Kino. Anyway, like all your walls the vectoring is flawless, and you've captureed the true nature of the anime by one of its main points: The smoking and the mushi.
Thank you. Thank you so much for making this lovely wallpaper of a highly overlooked master piece of an anime. It's truly a beautiful piece with a simplicity that appeals to the same simplistic yet intense meaning of Mushishi. *applaudes*
While I do not think you have captured the essence of the show with this or anything similar, Mushishi is hardly about the mushis or even Ginko, it is good enough to save as a wallpaper to be, probably. I really have nothing to add, it is nice, not great, but nice. I will +fav just because my lisf of favorites is so short.
Bleh the thumbnail doesn't show tama neko's awesome vectoring skills xD
i like the outline of the vector, and the grey colors are perfect for this wall with the smoke and all :3
