Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!
When I was cleaning up my room I found a stack of old anime magazines that I hadn't fully scanned. In Newtype Japan 3/04 I found a stunning picture of the Count in a different, sketchier style. Obviously I had to wall it.
At first I wanted to focus on the sword cutting the image into four quadrants, then I remembered my wish to make another 'clock' styled wallpaper based on a scene from one of the middle episodes in which we see Eugenie through the face of an old clock. I really liked that style so I decided to combine both ideas into this wallpaper. The image became much more experimental as I kept working on it, and it's certainly not your typical sceneric or grunge.
The background is a blending of numerous stock photographs of clocks and clock gears in a more abstract style.
The foreground clock was drawn in Illustrator based on several stock photos of large clocktower faces, and each slice of hour was colored differently, as if stained glass.
The title is the Latin inscription the Count has engraved in his pocketwatch, translating to "Death is certain, its hour uncertain" and seemed to fit very well with the time themes running throughout this wall.

EDIT: I've decomposed this wallpaper so if you're curious as to how the Count looked before I obscured him with my big happy clock of DoM! then you can.
This is definitely one of the most original wallpapers I've ever seen. :D Nevermind the clock covering a lot of the Count's details. I do wonder what this will look like if the clock was more solid instead of flat and plain black. But you don't have to change it.
I like this one! it looks like stained glass and i love the details shown through the colored glass (it's a clock, i know...) feels like you're transported back in time when clocks like that are still being used... like old England or something. there's something dark and mysterious around it that's making me like it! (^___^)

Wow! Really nice wallpaper. It's very unique. I really like the idea of using the interface of a clock and turn it into a wall. The colors are vibrant and clear and images blended very well. Really good wallpaper!
I really love this wallpaper. It's really original, and I think that the steined glass effect along with the hour glass gives it a sorta mideval feel. It pulls the entire wall together nicely, and definately looks very polished and well thought out. ^^
I have a new desktop image now ^^
I like that very much because of the stained glass effect and the clock style. The only thing that bothers me is that highlight in the upper area of the wallpaper.
Honestly, its a very nice standalone piece, but it makes my icons look wonky. :D
But back to the critque. I dont have anything negative to say about this piece. I think the stained glass was well done. The sketchy appearance of the art used is quite complimentary of the entire piece. Upon closer inspection, I noticed you could see the inner workings of the clock behind the glass-like panels. I love that kind of attention to detail. Also the sihouette of the clock's hands and outer moulding, although quite large, doesnt take the focus of the piece. Good work.
I love the clock which was used for the background of this piece, since it really adds a great look to the front image which is used. Also, as many others have already said; the stained glass effect is quite a great look for this one. And I can't think of any other style being used besides that for it.
