This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
This has always been one of my favorite Rayearth illustrations, and I finally found a scan nice enough to make a wall with it. I had to do a lot of editing with the scan; the page fold, extending Hikaru's sword and cape, as well as getting rid of the border that was going over Hikaru. You can see the original scan here.
I think this turned out pretty much how I wanted, though it seems like I could have done something else with the background around the castle, but... I got sick of milling over it and getting nowhere. So, I uploaded it, and that was that. >D< Any comments are much appreciated, as always.
I also plan on making a wall with an illustration from the Rayearth scenario collection in the future, so stay tuned if you like MKR. xD
Beautiful wall, and excellent use of CLAMP's Rayearth artwork. I like how you've added Emeraulde (sp?) into Hikaru's sword, making what otherwise would have been a boring left side of the wall interesting. I don't usually like the painted-filtery effect in the background, but it was put to great use here. The addition of the tower is a bit sudden, but it doesn't strike me as odd enough to take out. Great job.
Wow, this wall is awsome. Yeah, I love the render in the sword too, that's pretty cool. Excellent use of space, and focus. I honestly have no suggestions. +fav
Some parts of Hikaru's cape have this jagged white outline. Also, you could have extended Umi's hair, too. It looks chopped off. ^_^; Other than that, I really like this wallpaper. I like the clouds and the nice effects in front of Hikaru. Great job keeping the wallpaper CLAMP-y. And lots of thanks for the icon space. :D
Oh i'm saying nice work right here. you managed to extend the look and feel of the scan to the rest of the wall. good job on that. i'm liking the sketchy kinda old style kinda painty look that you managed to achieve, well done on that. heh.
er, other than that.. dunno what to say. good job is all.
well, bye now.

Oh wow, you did a LOT to this. I just checked out the scan, and I definitely prefer your wall over it. I was wondering what you meant about the sword extension, and it impressed me a lot- I went through and everything seemed untouched, but then the scan itself had it cut off. Great job with this! It has a very nostalgic feel.. I almost want to watch the series again
That's beautiful. I love the difference and the feel of it. Although, the white, uhm, building (? ^_^;) in the background tends to draw my attention away from the characters since it's such a small space and such an aprupt change in the colour scheme.
Wow. this is the first MKR wallpaper that i really really like - i think the effect of the sword says a lot for the story as well as it just looks really cool. Old school CLAMP! Wot. definite fave and my next desktop - fantastic job!

Wow, great wall you got there :) I really love the background and the concept of the wall, as if the darkness would try to consume the white tower but the girls are fighting it :D The only thing bothering me is that the scan is kinda dirty, you could've cleaned it up a bit. Except that it's really great, deffinetly a +++fav :)
Sugoi, sugoi ne! i love it! and MKR is one of the first animes i really fell in love with! actually, they gave rise to my love for CLAMP animes. the bg is so cool, even including the palace of cefiro! kawaii! i'll add it to my favorites! (^__^)
