Not too much for me to say about this wallpaper that hasn't already been said: Dalarty has provided a descriptive walk through all the way from the concept idea, to its execution and ultimately its fruition. And you can really see how that careful planning paid off. But it just goes to show, good ideas take time---and a whole lot of patience!
Adobe Suite: $700. Junk food eaten while designing: $57. Hours spent working on a design when you could have been working: $350 dollars. The 10 minutes for someone to tell you you suck: Priceless
LL: (if you are still on) I need to have you making a group annoucement about the card game. Currently very few people are on it. I make the design, but we need set the rules soon as possible.
Well this was my submission against highknees in our 1vs1 Battle thingymabob. He won.
Hmmm, what can I say about this wall. Well it's over 100+ layers since the BG was created from blending quite the amount of stocks together, over and over again. Probably more than 50 layers went to the rocks and another to the clouds/fog/smoke/whatever. I have this bad habit of not naming my layers and even worse- duplicating them AND keeping the layer mask on. So by the time "Layer 79 Copy 67" is created, my file is huge, thus causing 6 minutes to save, I don't even know how many to load, and viewing it in actual size of 1600x1200 in my 1027x768 resolution screen, WHILE attempting to Instant Message a friend at 4 AM in the morning caused my computer to glitch thrice. -_- Oh what fun...
I should find a more effective way of working... But that would make too much sense...
P.S. IT'S LATIN.. And maybe I read one too maybe yaoi mangas, I dunno... >_>
Also, the rocks... There's a reason why this wall is over 100 layers... Look closely at the wallpaper's rock formation and its crevices or whatever...
*giggles* HEE HEE THIS WALL HAS THE WORD CUM IN IT 8D

Now that i've returned to my proper age. I don't really think the mountains work well in this - too blatantly stock-imaged. Painting over the stocks might've worked in this case - i also don't like the bird that's in there as a part of the original stock. This senic wall's a little weird 'cause it goes from Mountains-peeking-above-clouds, then to open land - where one would expect to find more clouds/a blue sky? hmm. It all feels very grand and epic, though. nice job.
Hi phoenix, long time no see ^_^ great job on your background. 100+ layers O_o
i imagine it makes your computer cry every time you load it. but it looks great anyway, so it's worth it. ^_^
Jeez Minstrel giving a little bit too harsh on the critiques? ;p. No but seriously Stock blending isnt an easy task unless you have been taking secret arts in methods. My honest opinion is using terragen for background and having much of an easier time with the mountains and such...it really is a handy tool. Anyway Still a well done effort...hope Dave thinks the same way ;p
Holy sheep, this wallpaper rulz! XD
i feel your pain because of the "Layer 79 Copy 67" situation :D
but hey, you really made a great wallpaper!! ^^
goes to favs!
Really nice dark feeling in this wallpaper :)
i just think you could work more with the bg.. it look a bit to real.. but overall it's a really cool wallpaper :)
The wall is pretty cool ^.^ The stock is really nice, and it blends quite well with the scan ^.^ I like the scan you decided to use! ^______^ The lighting in the wall is great too ;D Keep it up ^^b
I used to be a hater of landscape backdrops... but I think you're starting to convert me. Though the image is a bit dark, it does give the wall a deep and glorious mood- almost sinister- that I think is necessary. Placement of the character was subtle and I'm really glad that there was no bothersome text anywhere to distract me.
The amount of details put into this wall is absolutely amazing! The lighting is good, the colours match so well and the ray of light on the character really puts it into perspective!

A fantastic idea, and I think you did a very good job pulling it together. It seems that the stock photo you used wasn't to great on image quality though? It really seems to take away from the fine work you did with the rest of it. I can't tell for sure it's been filtered to look that way, or if it's just a poor image. If it's filtered, I'd suggest you go back to having it look clearer and try a different tact. If it's just a bad image, I guess it would take quite a bit of work to touch up, you might be able to manage it though. Despite this, overall, it's really quite nice.
I like the background because the mountains, fields, water, and the sky all look very realistic. The combination of green, blue, and brown has a calm sensation to it. Great use of textures in the mountains. Overall job, it was above decent. Keep the work and effort up!

anyway, as a technicality, the only thing I could recommend is improvement of blending and typography.
As a personal opinion, I would recommend that stocks not be used so bluntly as a background.

i think you did a pretty good job with the rules you had. highknees' is pretty good too. i think it would have been hard to choose between them.
