This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Off the bat, let me clear up some things.
No, I havent seen the series. ;) It should be obvious anyway with this wallpaper's theme.
Anyway,I've always wanted to try a silhouette piece but I've found I've never managed to pull something beautiful off. This time, I decided to use this image, which is so beautiful on its own, as the silhouette. He was looking at something or somewhere to go and I got to create that something! It was an all exciting process. After scouring Stock.Xchng for a decent hillside scene, I came across a beautiful one and used it, after running it through the basic filters to make it more anime-colored instead of realistic. The original image had only one rock on which he could stand so I extended the rock, added some grass, and some lively night insects to give his rocky pedestal some life and flow. I then placed it before the hill scene. I made the image very dark, as I wanted to portray a nighttime scene. I also tossed in a couple of planets in there, ones with some real texture and color fluidity instead of the usual slapped on brushes. I found another stock image that had flowing mist and surrounded the planets with it. Overall I think it came out allright.

The scan is great and the background.... is absolutely beautiful! *_* There are amazing effects... The colours are dark and strong... *_*Excellent work with the grass and shadows... The background looks pretty realistic (but still anime-like), I love the planets there... *_~ Breathtaking work.

Okay where should i start.
I like the feel of this wallpaper, the two moons add to this. It kinda feels menacing rather than comforting as in "fear not" :]. I like the grass, imo i think its not overused in this wall.
what I dont quite like is the larger moon. It's kinda...well pixelated O.o and also you should try to put some extra flavour to the greg martin moon =/ trust me i've done plenty of them and they end up looking all the same so i hope you aren't satisfied with the current state of your moon/planet making abilities. also now looking at it, it would have been much cooler if the larger trabant would have been another planet... :] just my opinion though.
then we have naota...i'm not sure but...the scan doesnt look clean...clean as in extracted clean or so...mayb work a bit on that?
Other than that it's a good wallpaper. But not yet a wallpaper I would fav (not saying that I'm better so don't sweat it ;D).
I hope you keep working, so that mayb soon I will add one of your wallpapers to my favs;D

You know whats weird about what you said? Even though you said this theme isn't FLCL, it is. The main girl in the series is a alien! Odd how this theme matchs FLCL. Great Job on this BTW, the other space feel matchs the series great.
