This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
It has passed a lot of time since my latest submission, but hopefully I am back walling stuff, exams are over and I can finally enjoy my summer holidays. BANZAI!
Therefore, to polish my rusted skills I started with a simple wallpaper (if you can call that simple anyway eh) on one of my favourite anime series, Futakoi Alternative. Actually this wallpaper was ready to be submitted a week ago, but wildarmsheero beat me on time and submitted his wallpaper with the same scan, so I waited a bit to submit this one, hehe.
I vectored both girls and left Rentaro out because I wanted to create some icon space in the middle and on the top right corner. I kept the same concept the original scan had, having them laying on a grass field/lawn, done with the sole use of the smudge tool and by adding two slight textures (one from imageafter.com and the other from Tama-neko's website) to give it a bit of dirty look as well. Then I drew flowers and butterflies and that's it.
So yeah, it's quite simple. Expect to see more complex and elaborated wallpapers in the near future though, my mind has collected quite a fair amount of ideas during this little "hiatus", hehe.
More resolutions will be available at FRAGMENTS in the next updates!
[Edit] I've brightened the characters so that now they blend more with whole background.
Hehe like I said before..this is a great simple wall...hmz...altough I'm not a fan of big scans wallpaper, this is a good one, walls in this position are hard to wall but....I really like your vector...it's great:D~! hmz...keep the works...I'm looking forward to your secret weapons >D~!

Wonderful job with the vector. :) But did you intend them to be...well, a little colorless? I don't know, the colors on the vector look rather bland compared to the bright green grass. And the flowers should have variety in size and in angle, I think.
How I wish I could lie down on grass like that. damn allergies... *bawl*

Nice job with the vector. the characters works well... but the background isn't extract me too much... maybe you need some improve on the background... nice colour job too. anyway, it's still a nice wall! :) keep up the good work!

Haha! Shinn! A new wallie? Well...its beautiful as always. The grass feels like a bed cuz it seems to sink down when the two girls lay on it. Very nice concept. The colors are quite rich and the quality is good. Very sharp. Good job. Your skills are still there. n_n No worry of rusting* Oh...btw your avvie is from Full metal panic the second raid right? Hehe! Its seems that you represent him well, always get a beating by girls! Jkjk! Anyway cya around and have a nice day.

Great job on the vector, although something feels definitely wrong with is colours... although that's something a simple duplicate overlapping would fix, if needed. But since I can't really tell what's bothering me... well, ignore me on this point.
I'm not sure if the flowers and the vectors mix well together, though... don't really know why, again. But it's a fact all the white flowers look the same, other than the shading, and that's a nuisance. Some variation would be desirable, IMHO - not just in size and angle, like Nuniko suggested, but probably also in a few small details - like some missing petals, for example, maybe?
The colors on the characters are dull. Moreover, I almost thought it was made by a noobie because in the thumbnail, the "borders" around the girls made it look like a bad extraction. So I full viewed it. and I said, "Oh, it's not badly extracted, it's not a border either, it's an effect when something is laid on the grass. Unfortunately it's not that convincing. and the objects around it looks like a blending options drop shadow." Good try anyway.
EDIT: Oh I shouldn't have commented :(... It's not on the top rated yet.
IT'S A VECTOR? That's awesome. Can I see some on progress snapshots (or maybe layer by layer snapshots of the finished work) of the vector? You should have left it as a vector on a white background.
I have always been a fan of your work ShiNN and you always keeped me inspired with the proffesional walls you've make.
This is certanly one of the best submission this month. Great vector and an awesome background. Did you draw the flowers and the butterflies with the pen-tool? Janks, i've must of underestimated that tool. Haven't worked with it much at all.
The only little thing i had in mind is that the adorable ladies are a bit too uncolored. They don't seem to blend in the environment. If you only could color them up a bit so you get that sunny day look it would be a 10 points from me and i probably would of faint of the excitement :faint: :D
Anyways a great wall. Definitely one of the best this summer. Just remember to boost saturation a tiny bit so they don't look too greyish
This wall is a little too bright for the characters. Its kinda odd seeing a depressing series with ths background. It does not fit. The shadows look a little odd. Also are the characters fan art? they look a little off. And the text is a little off. Other than that, good concept, good idea.
Whoa, nice wallpaper there. I think the colors match up really well. The scan is cleaned to perfection. No questions about your skill there. Although I rather see a bit more contrast =/ The mundane colors ruined the wallpaper's potential appeal. Still, nice work there.
Oooh, nice vector! the scan is really cute! The grass comes off suprisingly well, although the flowers are a little weird, IMO. It's so cute though! really clean, good job.
That is really outstanding vector work :3 The flowers remind me of picture tubes, from back in the day with Paint Shop Pro. I think they could stand to be less detailed and more cartoon like, it would keep them from standing out. Actually, what would keep the flowers from standing out is giving them lighter shadows... And a gradient on the grass ;D Nice wall though ^^
