This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
So, about a month ago, ed (the11342) was asking me if he could upload a wall with a nude character to the gallery, and i explained that he should run it by me first. so he showed me the scans, and said he didn't know which one he wanted. and when i saw the one of the nude girl on the couch, i was struck with an idea. and being the nice guy he is, ed told me to make the wall (i hope he's not dissapointed)
i decided to do an open modeling session. if you go to art school, you're probably familiar with the concept, but if not, i'll explain. Every friday at my college, we don't have class. Instead, we have studio time, with optional open modeling sessions. basically open modeling sessions is the school hires a model to pose, and you can go in and draw them as you please. it's free, and poses range from 5 seconds to 2 and a half hours. it's required by some professors, but i just like to go because i find it really relaxing. if i could make a living off of figure drawing, i would. but i can't, so animation is my second love
the wall is made completely from scratch outside of the murata scans. the walls, floor, easel, window, and paintings are all made by me. the paintings were done in painter, and the rest of the wall in photoshop. the hand drawing, was drawn by me, and the blue outlines are artist tape holding the paped onto a drawing board.
Thanks a bunch to the people that gave me advice and loves.
that would be the11342, evol, mety, baka, ish, blu3, gid, HK, meth, annex and blaze for the 5 minutes he came back from the dead.
and because blaze said he liked the color version, and metal said he liked the desaturated version, i also bring to you...the desaturated version: http://usera.imagecave.com/Kalico/murata_desat.jpg
i'm really busy, so this'll probably be my last wall for a while. maybe the collab i have with metal and the one with semuta...but also maybe not.
if anyone ever says..."yeah, take 3 studio classes for animation! thats a GREAT idea!" shoot them.
just shoot them.
in the face.
The perspective is what impresses me the most. The positioning of the characters is also really good. My eye dances around the wallpaper in a nice way. The lighting is also very dramatic, and that's really cool. Finally, the sketches look really good. I'm not "worshipping the ground you walk on" but I like this. I probably won't be able to use it as my desktop because my dad might get all stupid. But yeah, I love this... a lot.
Very nice and tastefully done! I'm not sure about it's practicality as a wallpaper (definitely can't use it at work >< ), but the background and composition are superb. I just love the lighting and shadows on the wall, they give a great sense of depth, and along with the layering of images, it's like I'm actually looking into the room. Great job on this!

basically the only thing i don't like in this wall is the periods. after. every. word. there's some jagged and funny looking edges here and there, but i don't have anywhere near the patience to do something like this myself, so it's all good. interesting wall and good concept.
So yeah I logged in just to comment on your wall I hope ya feal special now ;) Anyway, I actually really dig this wall the concept kicks major ass and Range Murata is god, so obviously I totally love it! You get a big +fav from me xD
That's a spectacularly made wall. The positioning of all the characters is perfectly done, and I love the open model session concept >.<;; Your creativity really shines through in this wall. Great job!
It's nice to see a wallpaper that reminds me of fine art and studio classes. Although, I don't remember having any models quite so young for my drawing classes >_> (or having that much blue tape on my easel. ^_^;) Excellent concept and execution!
It looks... WOW. *-*
everything came out so good. everything fits really well and even though it includes a nude character (:P), its not even abit destracting. awsome job and i think im going to click on the add the favorite button. 33
-texture is really good
-the far painting looks abit...pixelated, and bright in comparison?
-the hand on the left...should not be there? cause that would mean the guy's hand extends very far low and then back up...unless he was supposed to be scratching his head...it just...doesn't look natural there
-for some reason the nipples are so clear while the paintings and sketches on other parts are all ...sketchy? XD
-I always thought there should be more tape on the borders...must be only me, then
-the tripod far away looks abit weird, with one of the front two bars suddenly popping up behind the rest.
-there's a slightly noticeable line going through the right part of the wall, abit above the middle.
other than these little weird things, I think this is an awesome wall :o
Very nice Kalico, I wasn't sure that Bantam would say yes...anyways. It's shows that you'll do anything to make a really good wallpaper. Great Job Kalico n_n (+fave)
I always loved your texturing skills as well as many other skills that you show in your walls. This wall is awsome I can't belive with the amount of time you have you would actualy spend some of it on making a wall like this. You must have been very inspired (hope I spelled that right :D). This makes me take my lazy ass of the coutch and get back to walling, and oh yeh this is realy has to be, might be, most indefenetly and apperently must have and could have ok ok ok ok its a fav ;P
PS: omg my spelling sucks, without word I would seriosly die. (s e are i o s l y - that doesn't sound right, oh well)

Really like the idea and the piece. Reminds me of Figure Drawing class a lot. One thing I would have recommended attempting was to slightly change the position/angle of the sketches the two artists in the foreground are doing. None of them would be drawing exactly from that same perspective since that particular perspective is from that of the viewer and not the two artists. It would give a very nice sense of depth but I suppose that's just me being picky. ;) Wonderful job nonetheless.
Wow, this is so well integrated. Fantastic job all around. I prefer the version that you submitted. My favorite part is the lighting, it's just so pleasing to the eye (and not because she's naked!) Fantastic job!
This is really good. It doesn't look like it's a work done from painter for the colouring part. The hand-drawing is really drawn so nicely that I don't feel that it's from a mouse. +fave :)

congrats on making such an original and fun wall! it's very memorable, and well executed. and the font is harry potter-esque.

and i can't get over the placement of the characters.
Have a nice day!
If religion is that which binds men to one another, and irreligion that which sunders, then must I testify that I found the religion of my country in its musical genius and its irreligion in its churches and drawing rooms.
