This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I read Tama's design blog entry on smudge painting and have wanted to try it out for a while. This is the product. It's nowhere near Tama's stuff, naturally, but i'm pleased with the result. I kind of hate her arm and nose, though.
Bebop is an interesting series in that, 7 years after its initial releas in 1999, whereas many an anime have been "walled to death" in that amount of time, i never seem to feel that exhaustion when i look at a bebop wall.
I have a laptop now, so i think my primary resolution will be 16:10 from now on :o
I personally think the smudging helped the feeling get across more powerfully. The emptiness on the left looks good, even though it's a lot of negative space. Le FAVE!

The smudging definitely turns a lot of that empty space on the left into a dramatic swirl of not quite perceptible chaos...As for the words, they are just visible enough to make out without being annoying. I find this wallpaper to be very simple, and really elegant in the point, and emotion it gets across, particularly in her face, and the half shaded light. VERY IMPRESSIVE, and very creative, I love this wallpaper.
Oh, what emo kid could resist this wall. hahaha i just loved what you said , i really liked the atmosphere that you created, althoug i´m not an emo kid
XD
well done

Brilliant, I'd say. Simple yet very thoughtout. The emotion, detail has been garnered so finely into this wall, it's enough to drive my focus away from the wide empty space and stare endlessly at the emotive lady.
+fav'd for great justice.
I like it. lolz, the emotion of the character is well presented. i could care less of the quality or whatever critiques would say about it. its a beautiful piece of work.
Very good! The smudge effect you did on this piece reminds of me of expressionism-esque oil painting. The empty space contributes well to the feelings being expressed by this piece. Although I do not like the realistic Faye of this scan, that's more of a personal gripe than anything else and doesn't detract from this awesome wallpaper.
