This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I did this one over a period of about a month. I didn't have a lot of time, so I only worked on it when I could find the time. Fortunately, a little bit of work over a pretty long period too can yield some results.
I vectored the characters off a scan and that took the longest; a couple of weeks if I remember correctly. I kept thinking how perfect it would be for a beach scene, which is what I did. The original scan had both sides cut off, so redrew them in. (My first attempt at that)
The background I drew almost entirely from scratch. The first few versions lacked a lot of depth, and I changed it many times over just to get it to this point. Again, this is a first drawing the entire background, but I must say I'm quite happy by how it turned out. ^^
Of course, I know there were things that could probably be better (like where the water meets the beach), but I tried many many times to get it to look good, and this is as nice as I could get it. I probably need to work more on how to make beaches look much better.
Many thanks to everyone in SZ who gave me many constructive comments.
I hope you like it.

Awesome drawing! This look... wow, I don't really know what else to say than this is simply awesome! Very cute, sexy, even wispy to an extent! I wish I was there with them. The shading is great, the expression on their faces reflect their character, the bloom and the rays of sun are perfect, and the beach looks just great! This is a definite favorite! Awesome job!
Wonderful. I am amazed at the fact that you've managed to create such a nice-looking background (almost) from scratch. Good work. The scan vectoring is awesome as well. You spoke of the 'sea near the sand' thingy as bad, but personally I don't have the slightest problem with it^^;. Haruhi & Yuki are absolutely cute in this scan and I can see that your vectoring helped it improve. It must have been tough. I like how the island looks blurry, like the camera is focusing on the girls and can't show it as well as them. Anyway, good job and a happy new year^^
Awesome! another amazing wall from you!! i love the background and her wings which are soo huge and seem to suggest that she is some type of angel... and then you realise that she is holding a gun... is wearing black, and has red eyes... maybe she is an "angel from the underworld... or a devil from paradise." thanks so much!!
