Sitting at my desk, twittling my thumbs, and praying that something will magically happen and all my work will be done for the night... Long and drawn out right? :S
mountain's red leaves
the setting sun returns
to the sky -- Kobayashi Issa
This is my entry to Paint-o-Rama's Feudal Japan contest.
I found the scan to be interesting in composition - the simplicity in the trees framing a round bridge with a geisha made a not-so-typical scenic setting, plus the orange-y autumn colors were quite refreshing. This wallpaper was basically extended in Illustrator, repainted (twice - once for watercolor and once for blending) in Painter, and then post-production was completed in Photoshop. You can see the details in my step-wise tutorial.
I found the haiku with Google - originally I was looking for one by Basho, but I found an excellent resource for Issa haiku that was even sorted by seasons - perfect for finding a fitting fall poem for the setting. More resolutions for the not-so-widescreen crowd
First wall that I commented in 2 or more weeks!! *dances*
Anyway, this wall is absolutely refreshing. The warm orange colors aren't too bright, and it authentically captures that painting feeling. In addition, the scan is perfect. +FAV for the great job!!
Nice scan to showcase Feudal Japan. The colours are really nice and refreshing and they are not too bright that they burn your eyes out. Love the whole paintey feeling of the wall.

This is so gorgeous! It looks like a painting. One of those old fashion kinds that you might see in a nice chinese restaurant. Yeah... I'm sure that didn't make any sense but I love it none the less!! Great job with this wallpaper. It is very classic.
