This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
No, I do not an iPod nor will I ever own one (mainly because there's no need to). And I'm not a CCS fan.
Why Highlighted? I guess you can say this wall is totally different from the norm. 3D prog is the main tool here while Photoshop plays a secondary role. This is a total opposite from the usual anime wallpapers (where the roles of 3D progs and Photoshop are reversed). For standing out from the rest, I believe this wallpaper deserves a place in \"Highlighted\".
Only gripe...the size is 1024x768 instead of 1600x1200 (which is available at Windarrow's website).
After completing iKero Silhouette, I did this one so all the 3D model detail could be seen. It veers from the classic silhouetted iPod ad look, but that's OK with me. That was the point. It's more like the classic minimalist Apple ads.
This wallpaper also features Kero from Card Captor Sakura. For those unfamiliar with Kero, he's the guardian beast of a magical set of spirit cards, called the Clow Cards. He appears in this stuffed animal-like form because he doesn't (yet) have enough power to change into his true form. Kero helps the heroine of the series, Sakura Kinomoto, recapture the Clow Cards after she accidentally scatters them by opening the magic book they were held in (the book of Clow). CCS is yet another series by CLAMP, who did Magic Knight Rayearth, Clover, X, Wish, Chobits, and many other manga and anime.
Realistic monitor screens in 3D models will appear too dim unless a little trick is used--the screen decal must also be a "glow map". Increase the brightness in the glow map and the screen will look more realistic. I had to do a little research for the song and album cover though... this selection seemed appropriate.
Because Kero's head is tilted, the left wing (his left) went in front of his ear. I cheated a bit by rendering the wings separately, which I had to do anyway for the silhouette version, then compositing them at the back in Photoshop.
Only the iPod was newly created for this wallpaper. The Kero model was from a previous wallpaper and posed differently. I'm always amazed at how well the face gives Kero personality considering it's only a flat decal placed on a sphere. Perhaps it's the happy mouth? Maybe.
I don't know if I pulled it off, but one of my goals was to make the iPod look like it was dancing along with Kero. What do you think?
I don't actually own a full size iPod so I had to examine a lot of pictures for referencing the plastic surface. I don't know if it's really this reflective in real life though. Maybe one day I'll get one just to make the model even more accurate. ^_^
This is soo cute. it doesn't look fake though kero is a bit too dark. kero's tail looks like a rose bud, cute and funny. i love what you did to the ipod with ccs song playing in it. fabulous concept! the reflections of the cables and kero on the ipod itsef is amazing.

Ok...i notice this wall not because of kero or even the ipod...but the 3D look which is kindda rare in walling :)
anyway, i like it since it is simple and the colour is not that bright.
i really like the concept since it is different from the ipod walls i saw here.
i'll add it as my fave since it is really a special wall...
nothing much to comment...great job :)
I love the crisp, clean, look of this wall. This is the first ipod based wall that I didn't get annoyed at. The fluff on the end of Kero's tail reminds me of a piece of popcorn. I don't mean that negatively though. ^_^;
I love this wallpaper, the 3d modeling is pretty good except for the fluff on the tail and some parts look more 2d, (ie the mouth). Besides that, I still really like the whole wallpaper.
Amazing! Definetely a nice change of the silhouette routine. >.>;; I just now happened to notice all the little info on the iPod. That just makes the image look more realistic. Great job!
