This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
This is my first EVER wallpaper. I tried to preserve the sunset and overall mood from the original scan. Plus I'm totally in love with half the Gundam Seed Destiny characters. ^_^
Just about all the background stuff was made by hand using Adobe Photoshop 5. Anyway, thanks to everyone who helped me in session zero!
Overall time spent: A lot!

UPDATE:
I changed a couple of things based on suggestions. I won't tell you what they were, but for the most part, I think it looks better! Thanks for the suggestions!
It's nice
I like it. It's really good considering it's your first wall. I like the background and the color. It really matches Shinn. The weapon beside him is pretty cool
Jesus christ this is good!!i wanted to make a wallpaper of this for a really really long time, but i had no idea on how my design will look!it's cool cuz you kept the look on the original scan.considering it's your first wall,it's really really really good!i think the letters should've been moved up higher and a better look to it would make it better!*favs*

Haha, those are the buildings from imanimation. Well, I think you should clean up on the buildings and debris, there a little jagged on the edges, same with shinn. The typography is well done, the only thing is the jagged edges you need to fix, then it'll be perfect!
This is excellent for your first wall :D
Some critiques:
- I agree, there are jagged edges that need to be fixed. Try using the Blur tool or Smart Blur. It's the easiest most useful trick in the book ^_^.
- Maybe try randomizing the white birds (I'm assuming they're birds) in the background - they look too in sync with each other to be very realisitic.
- Try to find a focus point - right now, I see mostly a regular image with a nice scenery background..not much editing. Have some fun with it ~ go wild :). Simplicity is also its own fantastic deal - but with simplicity it becomes your skills in design that make the wallpaper look good.
Really nice points:
- Choice of colors is balanced and work well with each other.
- The overall theme of "Look to the Sky" is emphasized well too. The semi-sunset sky and the scan you chose to go with it are perfect.
Wow, the first thing that struck me about this wallpaper was the lighting of it - i love that soft light and the colour of your sky, I also like how you aligned your text. the only thing I can point out is that some of the background *debris* looks exremely solid. Over all, an extremely great first wallpaper. I can't wait to see more of your work. +fave
This is a really good wallpaper. The colours are nice and the image looks smooth to me. I guessed you RE-CG shinn or something? I am adding this to my favourites though it won't go on my desktop cos it's too small..
Your first wall? WOW, first time but already make a good wall. Nice done!! The background is nice and match with Shinn's feeling. Hm.. really love this one. Thanks for sharing it, and don't forget to make another great wall from this series, since you love it too. Ok?

Nice try!
something really stand out to me: the building on the left .. i mean it's so "intact" XD I hav been thru that tutorial too in imanimation, recognise it straight away .. you may at least change the colour or chop it at an angle. It doenst really fit in your overall debris litten battlefield.
keep up the gd work

This looks great for a first wallpaper! Great work!
The colours are very nice, they match well for your concept of a sunset. The extractions could use some work, there're jagged lines oo the scan but overall great work! The birds needs a little more depth but are a great addition to the wallpaper. Overall, I really like the feeling, great work! Keep it up!
I really like this one, but there are some jagged edges on the left side and the scan is on some parts bad extracted.
Also the two buildings in the background do not fit with these in the front.
But keep it up~
This wall has a lot of potential.
but it still needs a LOT of work.
i'll be kind seeing as it's your first wall...but hopefully i'll be able to give you some help.
first of all, i know this scan, and i know the poor quality it was at. seems to me you just blurred it up. you should have recged it completly by vectoring it. i have this scan in the works in illustrator myself. yeah, it takes time, but it's worth it. the difference in quality is dramatic.
i see you tried to continue the background. i can see the line where the background cuts off, and you continued it on.
i think thats what bothered me the most. is the way you continued the background on without doing anything about the line to make it ease in.
the buildings in the background need a lot of work.
i think a blurred and manipulated stock photo would have been better.
and the clouds could use some work too. more depth, more drama. for a destroyed land, it seems a bit to serene. not like the calm after the storm kind of serene, but more like...grassy field serene.
the text isn't so bad, but it could use some shrinking in my opinion.
for a first wall it isn't terrible. but i'd like to see you go back and make those changes so it could be even better. theres too many obvious in-your-face flaws.
Nice wall like the concept of look to the sky.the building on the left doesn't match with the overall background though...everything else is pretty good
It's cool, but I think, the color bg not suit well, why? because I think you can prefer other color to make it, like dark color, maybe. But, that's OK! I like Shinn expression, Love Shinn and Love you ^.~

Sifting to the bottom, every day for two...All energy funnels, all becomes you
Kneel down and clear that stone of leaves
I wander out where you can't see
Inside my shell, I wait and bleed.
i like the background and the colors you chose are really good as well. ^^
great job!
