This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
This wall was a challenge between me and Beckor. My wall took way too long to finish, but Beckor was kind enough to keep pushing the deadline back, for the past three or more month.
The wall began with a sketch of a cyborg (or bio robot) drawn by me this summer:
then I worked on making it in Blender for almost three months.
The reason why it took so long is because of college and the fact that I never used Blender before, but am glad that I leaned how to use it now.
Background is made in photoshop cs2, 80% of the grass had to be made using a tutorial, the rest is standard grass brush. It took me 2 1/2 hours to make the grass, so you better damn like it. The sky is a stock photo, I only extended it. The planet is from space_bg_maker by Anders Lejczak. Behind the soldier is a swamp with a lot of fog.
Well, I am 100% satisfied with the wall, lighting turned out to be almost perfect, soldier figure and texture; bump map, etc.. is good.
If anyone wants a version of the wall without "EVI" in the background, then pm me.
Wow original art??! I bow down to your mecha drawing and 3D render, that is soo awesome!
I wonder how hard it is to learn a 3D package, the looks of the software available out there are just so daunting, but I do want to try it at some point.
Anyways, congrats for picking up Blender and a great wall, hope to see more sweet 3D stuff from you! :)
You have done a great job with the render, the ligithing is really well made. the bg is not that bad too, the colour fit the character well. the grass is not that bad too, but it's something that is wird, down it is looking like it's sunrise, but you have added moon too, did you really whanted that, if yes, then ok!
if no, you should get ride of the moon! or make a huge nice planet and add it, i think it'll show the scale much better! but that were just ideas i speaked about, so i have to say this wallpaper looks great :)
keep it up :)
Damn that looks so great, you truly are amazing with 3d-grafic creating. I mean the surface and the textures its all so awesome. Not to mention that you created this fully from a hand drawn sketch into this cool piece of work. I think ya need to get into character designing ore something.
Shame that you are so awesome at character designing that your photoshop work is a small notch down. The back of the background with the clouds and the sun is good and very fitting. but somehow boring, by looking at the robot it could have like needed a moon in it ore a planet. Furthermore just below the sun there is a small piece of white strangeness in the grass. And yeah i find the grass to plain and clearly everyone-uses-this-ps-grass-tutorial. Shame it has been done like that but still we all have our good and bad points. And time+school is a killer i know all about it
Great work deserves a fav from me, see ya around and keep on wallin

I dont know what to say, honestly the model is impressive, that it makes the photoshopwork looking halfdone.
I like it, and then I dont like it at the same time... I know it doesn't make any sense what I say but try to make is more intresting to look at next time around. peace out.
