"In sleep he sang to me,
In dreams he came.
That voice which calls to me,
And speaks my name
And do I dream again?
For now I find,
The Phantom of the Opera is here,
Inside my mind"
- Phantom of the Opera
While Phantom of the Opera has never been my favorite musical the setting and character relationships in Ergo Proxy are similar to that of the musical.
SPOILER (click to view)
The love "triangle" between Re-l, Vincent, and his alter-ego Ergo Proxy is very reminiscent of the relationships between Christine, the Phantom, and Raoul.
Thus when I stumbled upon this screen shot from the movie adaptation of the musical I immediately knew that I had finally found the inspiration for the Ergo Proxy wall I've been wanting to make for some time now.
After the extremely positive reception of my Okami wall I decided to further my endeavors into a more hand-painted style instead of traditional vector methods. What made this wall much more difficult however was that about 50-75% of the character outline was missing. Both images of Re-l and Ergo Proxy started out as only headshots [ 1, 2] which meant I had to draw what was missing from scratch. Using a few reference screen shots, bits and pieces of various vectors I already had been working on, and a few grey hairs later I had finally succeeded in my first hurdle.
The hand-painting took time but was not very difficult. My favorite part of this wall has to be Ergo's mask, the shading turned out surprisingly realistic.
The background turned out to be my biggest headache, even moreso than the vectoring. This is the second background design, the first idea I had I actually spent about two-three hours working on (including a beautiful rendering of a statue) that in the end only distracted from the characters and, more importantly, was completely off perspective wise.
After two hand-painted walls and much love for my Wacom tablet I have to say I'm proud of my latest work. I hope you like my new walls as well! *runs off to make another Okami wall*
The background looks good, though, there's not much because of the characters' big faces. :-) The unconscious character's eyes seems a bit strange, and his skin is like a mask. The other character's head a bit big compared to the other guy's. Anyway, nice wallpaper.
The background looks great with the text. I think you blended both of those in quite well. I also like the vectoring on the masked guy. It looks nice and clean. However the vector on the girl looks kinda jaggy and uneven. Especially the lines on her ears. I just think it looks weird there, and im sure you could've done better with that. I also think you should add some grungy textures over the picture to give it a darker feel. Well nice concept on the wall anyway. ^_~
I like the sketchy feel of this wall and its like some walls ive thought of doing when I get a wacom, the word in the BG looks very good its blended in nicely
I like the concept from the screenshot from POTO. When I saw it, I knew it was a Phantom of the Opera inspired. Great concept, great wall, and anything inspired by POTO is lovely.
For painting you have to work in a really high res and shirk the hell out of it. but it doesn't look like you put as much effort as the wolf one. Your getting lazy XD.
Like the paint work and the background with "Awakening" blended in, looks really nice. The effect on Ergo's mask and the shading seems very natural and cool. I would prefer the background to be more raw and grungey just the blend everything overall.
The outlines on Lil need to be less jagged, it's good when used for sketches but on this it seems out of place.
Anywayz nice work.
I like the colored wallpapers cause I suck at them... T-T
This is quite nice I of course see some spots that you missed but I'm a critic so I was bound to see something... ^-^; LOL! All and all it is very nice.
I favor it cause it is something that I aspire to do one of these days.
Sorry this is a kinda late reply but I think that it would have been much more effective if you would have tried to increase the quality of the wall. It seems a little to blurry to me but I'm betting that was the style you were aiming for. Also the background seems a little to empty just a plain jane wall, maybe try adding in something else?
I do however think it deserves much more than a D+, I would rank it at a C.
Great wall. Where did you find/How did you make the wall (the literal wall, like you would have in your house. That says awakening) ? I have been trying to make a wall (again, literal) that says that and it just isn't cooperating.
The background looks good, but there is not much of a background because of the two characters. But the faces of the two characters look too different from one another. Other then that looks very good.
