This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
For those of you who don't read past here, this is for Meteorcloud's contest.
Alright, so, instead of my usual rant or one sentence intro, I'm going to tell you the quick story of the lyrics, because this song is seriously one of my favourite songs ever.
The "Ave Maria" in the wall isn't actually the Catholic prayer most people know, or the song Yoko Kanno wrote for Cowboy Bebop, but instead a song performed by Chris Cornell (the guy from Sound Garden and Audioslave bleh -___-) and Eleven's Natasha Shneider. However, the lyrics are actually an excerpt from Sir Walter Scott's poem "Lady of The Lake," changed from Old English to Modern English (a la Elizabethan Age). While the lyrics are Sir Walter Scott's, the music used for the song was originally composed by Franz Schubert, who was using the first two stanzas translated into German by Adolf Storck.
And that's that. :)
Ayami Kojima bows to no one!!
And I'm so glad I'm done with this wall. A few stock photos, hand painted clouds, textures, and homemade PS abstracty goodness. This one was huge at 1600*1200. Bleh. . .
Wow...the background's so stunning...I love it! Basically only one prob, too much text XD You can soften the text a little bit to match the bg and make it less hard on the eyes +_+

I like it...yes... I do. The backgroud is gorgeous and filled with abstracty good-ness and the clouds look wonderful. I really love 'em. The words fit... not too many either... because they blend with the rest of the wallpaper. I love the art... but you can't be credit for that... *looks around* or can you? LoL Anyhow, great job. Take care!
Love the clouds (especially the white "curtain" ones) and the text is just too good... nice fonts, nice effects on 'em, and you kept the number down & the relation good between them. Not so fond of the middle-top and right-top parts -- not grungy in as good a way as the rest of the wall, I think. A touch darker, maybe with a little more contrast, certainly wouldn't hurt, what with it being Castlevania and with the original scan being on the pale side and all, but that's hardly make or break. Very nice, I like it!
Great job. I love the oil pastel-ish painting effect. The text were done really nicely as well. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title 'ave maria' was that blondie psycho in FMP:TSR *lol*. Gluck to you for MC's contest.
Tate has already told ya what I think about tis wall! >_<
*waks tate*
anyway really cool j0b wit teh text and those clouds! >xD~
it really makes for tis weird atmosphere, which I find rather fitting to the character although I do agree that a darker wall woulda been cool too

However, I believe I've spotted a typo: "Shall fee before thy presence fair" -- that should be "flee," perhaps?

Anyway, good luck with the contest, Gid. You know I'm rooting for you. XD
