This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
This wallpaper features a scan I got off the Anime Project Alliance Gallery ( link here). As you can see, it's very sketchy and practically colorless. I had to repaint Cheza and Kiba's face - which took the better part of a day and 30-something layers. I was actually quite sad in putting a background behind them, as it pretty much muted all the details of my painting.
Anyway, after fixing the scan, I made my own parchment background and then added a map of the "old" world from a history book in a university library. I was thinking about Cheza and Kiba's epic trek throughout all of Wolf's Rain.
I wanted to actually put more details and symbols in the background but eventually decided against it - mostly because the insane number of large layers was making Photoshop lag on my sad, sad PC but also because the nature of the image (the sketchiness) made it tough.
Wow, I absolutely adore this wallpaper. It's professional looking and the way you blended the cg with the original sketch work beautifully. The parchment background is well done and fitting. Overall, great work and instant fav!
Oh, and your link to the sketch is wrong...the correct link is this:
I really like this wallpaper. I remember having seeing that sketch before, and I was pleasantly surprised at the improvements you made upon it! The colours are a lot more vibrant more, and the soft colouring really helps the piece. The enhancements you made to the colours are also very effective, and I like how you kept the subtle "rainbow" of different colours in the shadows on Kiba. The colour of the background is rich and just the right tone to compliment the subjects of the wall. I couldn't think of a better shade for you to use, and it even has the added bonus of adding to the map in the background, giving an implied "worn, faded" map effect that suits the title perfectly. I also like the black strips on the top and bottom, the whole wall fidgets around being dark or being light, and having those bold black stripes in there helps to draw the eye away from the blank space (the blank space, by the way, works great in the wall because of the map in the background) and right to the focal of the characters. I also like the way the characters seem to be looking past the title of the wall, it connects them to the title in a way.
Great, great, wall! This concept is a great one, and you've got an amazing image there, so suffice to say this one will be on my computer!!

Kirk: Come on. Spock, why didn't you jump in?
Spock: I was trying to comprehend the meaning of the words.
McCoy: It's a song, you green-blooded...Vulcan. You sing it. The words aren't important. What's important is that you have a good time singing it.
Spock: Oh, I am sorry, Doctor. Were we having a good time?
McCoy: God, I liked him better before he died.
