This wallpaper gives us a perfect example of how a simple manga scan can be turned into a beautiful vector. Not only did danalm trace the lineart, but he also added amazing details and a simple, yet wonderful background. Furthermore, the wallpaper shows us how the monochromatic style can make your work look really interesting.
Sometimes.. not often but sometimes..
Sometimes you encounter something in your life and you know that you want to try to contemplate that feeling into a wallpaper. A example was when i finished watching FLCL i got a free fresh feeling from it and felt that i wanted to do something with it, for that i have had not yet find a answer, but to my current feeling i did. Here is the story to this wallpaper.
A few days ago the clip from bloc party was released here in holland, i saw it twice before i was gripped by the song. I am not a huge fan of bloc party but i like there music. There new single "the prayer" i love, the lyrics the clip and the vibe it gives off. The lyrics are according to some people making a reference to cocaine and other feel-good/confident drugs.

I find this theorie quite a good option to be so. anyhows ive watched the clip like 30-50 times today now and still i like the effects used. It was directed by the same person that made the clip from prodigy-firestarter Watch the Clip
Now all i had to do was to create it into a wallpaper, while browsing trough my scan library i encounterd a vector of Dutch from Black lagoon. Dutch is your typical silent smoking lookin-all-cool guy. He is the boss so to say and made most impression on me during a episode halfway during the first season of black lagoon

He and revy enterd a nazi warboat and before entering dutch comes up with a huge ass quote about that he shall make the drums sound and that the world will shake under his feet.
He is not often seen in action but when he is he wields a combat shotgun.
For the wall i used some stock photos of flames, a cool stylish font plus some effects and gradients, the effort on it is not much but i wanted to create a wallpaper that could resemble the vibe off the song by bloc party and the character of dutch as one

Honestly i think the clip is somewhat crappy... i kinda like the song though
luckly that doesnt change the fact that did well on the wall, hell yea
i absolutely love the font and atmosphere
dutch looks like a badass calculating cold-blooded thug, which he in fact is, despite my and most ppls sympathy towards him
i just think that he needs some fine textures or somethin, he looks way too smooth this way and i mean his surface, his character is in fact quite smooth
also i think his bottom lip looks a bit 2d
anyway, you get a good point for makin this wall well suited for desktop use
so, nice job man, this wall has attitude
The background is simple, but good, and the character with these colors are looking good, too. He fits to he background well, and the text is good. Nice wallpaper.
I agree with you, the effects in the video are amazing, but still I don´t like the sound of Bloc Party and the lyrics neither, but the video is awesome. And finally here´s something simple from you so HOORAY! Very nice and dark, and yeah the flames are nice, heh and seems like we used the same vector. Wall fits with the song nicely, just missing that melting stuff you can see in the video. But anyway +fav

Very cool, really captures what Dutch as a character is like, the impassive look as he stares down at his victim and the light glinting off his shades =p
Yes! Now this is what I've been waiting for! Finally, good wallpapers of side characters! The low lighting of the wallpaper gives a certain ambiance that I just love so I'm downloading it right away. Nice job!
