This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Its been awhile since I've submitted something to AP, huh? I have increased my skill and gotten much better with working with resources. In this wallpaper, I tried to lower the brush work to one brush that wasn't default, and It wasn't even main brush work, lol. Anyway, I was trying to aim for the whole Ishida-spazz-pride moment, the ones he has all to frequently. So, I started with a simple gradient BG, used some Distort filters, used some smudging, pixel brushing, and TONS of color balances, photo filters, and gradient maps. I then used two C4Ds, and blurred them to create some depth while sharpening the main Ishida render(which is a colored-manga scan). After that, I added the text, and viola :]

EDIT ON FEBRUARY 23RD 2007 @8:38 EST: I just uploaded a revised version; bigger resolution (1280x1024) and since its bigger, had to work with re-sizing and editing of some of the stocks. Any problems, please send me a message. I am logged on 24/7, but I visit the site a lot so I'll get it. Hope this appeases to the bigger resolution dilemma :P
Nice brushwork, and good job on the background.
However, I think you could improve Ishida by making some lines smoother.
For example his glasses and some other parts are a bit weird.
Yes, this wallpaper looks really nice, but Ishida looks like he's popping out of the background instead of blending in with it. Other than that it's great ^_^
I really like the idea and I love the background. I do agree with angrycat that some of the lines on Ishida are jagged on his clothes here and there but that is just a minor technicality though...Good job and hope to see more from you soon! :)
Yeah ^^;
I went a little happy on the Sharpen tool, and didn't realize it until afterwards :P
That's why is pants and head looks OVERLY sharpened :P
But thanks, one of the best I've done by far. *goes to do some more*
Okay, when I saw the thumbnail of this wall, oh man was I excited to click on is to see it in full view. But I was pretty dissappointed with the overall work. >.< It could use some tweaking in tne image with the lines being all jagged. But don't get me wrong, I really like the idea of your wall but, I just think that it could have been so much better...

Wow I think this is first only-ishida wall in the gallery. I think you did really good job in the bg, especially the colors are wonderful, however the scan is not of the best quality. I don´t like some jaggy lines, mainly on the belt, and some other places, too. It´s pity cause this have a potential. Maybe next time. I still like it. Keep up good job
- Nice brush effects. And you managed to keep a clean constrast to it. Although I would like it to be darker (specially in the facial lines of the scan).
Wow, nice wallpaper, really like the picture used of ishida, and the colors match very well with the theme and artstyle. Like the glow effects too. awesome. background is nice and the font matches very well too. Good job and keep up the good work, hope to see some more great work from you soon. definitely going to add this wallpaper to my favorites for sure.
I kindof like this.. It's really good! But somethings missing.. What could it be.. =.=
I know! I think.. Is'nt he suposed to be standing IN the darkness, shining?
It looks like the darkness is a black wall of fog right behind him. Im not sure what to do about it, but i know it looks that way becouse he shines, and the only thing that reflects any light is that fog behind him.
I think you should, just in case your making another, not make so much fog behind him, spread it out, and add some tiny layers of fog in front of him...
Wait a minute.. Should I be writing stuff like this in Session Zero? ^^;
Maybe..... In case thats it, never mind this! *Runs away to Session Zero*
