This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
You can't escape the sootballs, you can try to avoid making a wall centered around them but eventually you just have to give in.
One night I was suddenly asking myself "what would happen if you gave a balloon to a sootball?". I had been watching Princess Mononoke and Miyazaki-influenced images were floating around in my head. Immediately the surrounding atmosphere was filled with sootballs tied to pink balloons smiling with glee. The fact is undeniable, sootballs and balloons go hand-in-hand.
There's not much more to be said about this wall. All the usual love for my Wacom tablet (everything except for background textures drawn from scratch again, including the folding screen) and my seemingly increasing love for incorporating Sakura trees into my walls.
Enjoy! ^_^
EDIT: I have obeyed the masses and added white to the eyes! I originally thought that was distracting but I guess I was wrong. Also some shading touch-ups done to the balloons. Thank you!
W00t! seen spirited away on christmas..love it since then..nothing more to say, its just awesome..but they could have white eyes.. :/ *uses as desk* +fav!
Shading around the edges of the balloons need to be like... much darker where the light's not hitting it, but good job on the shine, i have trouble with shine/reflection in traditional drawing, and this looks good.
Very nice the sootballs are done very nicely but the Japanese space divider in the back caught my attention more. The background is a little light so its a little hard to see whats going on but other than that nice job.
Lol its a funny wallpaper it is cute but why are theyre eyes transparent you know the white part I havent seen the movie so im not sure if thats how it should be but its good not my fav style but its good by style I mean cute
It's really close to flyin's wall's color themes.
I think it would be better if you made it a little cleaner.
the sootballs should probably be solid.
then, clean up the bg a little, because there are some brushing that are not needed imo
also, if you take out the dashed line, and simply make the flying concept a bit tacit, it might be better. :D
overall, great idea! i think it's really cute that you can come up with that idea like BooM.
also, congrats on the promotion!!
I absolutely love this wallpaper. =3 The sootballs + balloons are adorable, and the colors go really well together.
The only thing that bothers me is the text; I'm not exactly sure why, but I think I might have liked this wall better without the text. But I love it anyway. XD; Good job!
This is very cute! And you're right about the sootballs - you can never get away from them @@.
The only thing I have a problem with is the eyes - it seems they were erased rather than supported by a layer of white. Having them see-through is a little odd.
But other than that, I think I have a new desktop xp.
Haha yeah, the only bit of critique that I'd have is what a billion other people have pointed out... the transparent eyes really are distracting. For the smiling one, the pinkness of the closed eyes also look a little out of character, but that's not as bad. Otherwise, this wall is pure win XD Love the concept and the awesomely simple execution... if you ever decide to please the masses and fix up the eyes, drop me a line let me know yeah? So I can add to my wallpaper rotation mwa ha ha XD
So cute!
I loved Spirited Away, and the sootballs are KAWAII!
The japanese screen definately adds color, and I'm sure the wall would be a bit bland without it.
Excellent!
