After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!
@~ala21ddin21: I still have the hair and the boomerang to do. The hair are not too hard but it will long I think. The boomerang is pretty straightforward to do. @:3CloudGer: It's nice to see you home :3
This wallpaper is just an all around great idea made into an even better wallpaper. Angelwingkitty brings this scene (that never happened!) to life with her creativity and overall glossy execution. Take a look and learn more about how she did it!
The problem with compilation is that if you put a lot of work into it and get it right, no one believes that you even did anything. I'm still glad it came out as well as it did though there still are some things that could be improved upon. I really don't see many shots of both Ashitaka and Mononoke being bad@ss together so I wanted to accomplish that with this piece. Yes Ashitaka is supposed to be the "peace maker" and everything but... well... yeah, call it a moment of weakness on my part.
While I didn't vectorize the image, I did completely repaint San, Ashitiaka, the deer, and wolf since the scans were rather messy. I also re-inked Ashitaka since I had to shrink him down and intensified all the shadows on him to fit the surrounding environment. Then I painted him a normal arm, a few more arrows, and his scar.
The fire was made completely by me and was certainly the most enjoyable part of this endeavor. I had never done fire before so it was a new challenge. I was really trying to capture a "moment in time" with this, thus the blur effect to give everything more movement. So many walls nowadays are just some character standing wistfully in front of a pretty sky or design. I wanted to really give more action to this piece.
I had planned on making a longer title but... I dunno... personally, I don't think it needs more. War is such a short word but it signifies so much. Love, hate, anger, pain, death, fear, freedom, oppression, desire for peace. So many feelings that can be expressed by a simple, three letter word. I was worried that the text would really flatten the depth of the image but I think it worked out fine. I made it small because in a way I wanted to signify how the word itself can not seriously emote the horrors that arise from it. We take the concept of war so lightly at times; in text books, video games, movies, and the daily newspaper. I wanted to bring that concept forth as well.
Went for the widescreen effect again because Miyazaki is just that epic. Truth be told, I worked on this piece and didn't attempt to crop it to a wall resolution until finishing. I couldn't bring myself to nearly cutting the thing in half to abide by the necessary wallpaper sizes. So instead I gave it the movie appeal. I had half the mind of just putting it up at Widescreen 1920x1200 but decided that it would then be unusable by a majority of the populace on AP. I'm afraid I don't know how to post up more than one resolution on here (I tried checking the AP Guide but found nothing). If someone has any pointers on how to do it, I'd be happy to post up a widescreen version. My apologies.
It's a very intense image so I can understand why it might not be considered good "wallpaper material" seeing as it might be rather busy on your desktop. Nonetheless, I did enjoy making this piece and am glad that I finished it. Please tell me what you think if you have a moment. :)
I checked out the scans you used, and wowza. Your wallpaper is a great idea + flawless execution in action :3 And you will be able to upload different resolution aspects AP v.5, so you could always add widescreen later on ^^
I absolutely love it :) The quality is great and the motion implied by the image is just beautiful. Great use of scans... colors are rich... epic is all that can be said to describe it. Isn't too busy a scene for my taste, I think it's an excellent paper. I'd love to d/l a widescreen version without the black bars hint hint nudge nudge. Faves :3
Woww~ This wall completely blew me away XD
It's THAT good :D Everything in this wall was perfectly executed & it's VERY creative.
At first, I thought, here we go again with using one image/cleaning wallpaperm >.>
But then I saw the scans & read your description about this wall in all the things your did to make it that way, I was really amazed ^____________^
Excellent job~ Keep up the good work~ :]

Great composition and sense of movement, it's something that we rarely see in anime wallpapers (with all the stylistic/abstract/minimalistic trend going on), it is indeed definetely worth of an highlight.
I looks like it should of been in the movie. What a great wallpaper. The sense of movement is great it looks like it is going to pop right out at you. Keep up the great work +fav.
Great use of motion blur - a very difficult skill to master in wallpapers. You've really done a great job of focusing on the characters and emphasizing the motion of the piece. You really deserve the hilighted spot and all the dozens of favourites I'm sure you'll get! Keep up the excellent work!
Nice wall and the whole job you did on the scans was great. However I don't approve of the comment you made on today's walls about a single character and the sky.I mean stuff like that is what goes on a desktop ... I really wouldn't like seeing a rabid goat jumping out of the screen every time I turn on my PC.

Oh! No no, I didn't mean those types of walls are bad, just that I see so many of those nowadays so that I wanted to do something different. I completely agree that I wouldn't want something so intense on my desktop all the time ^^;; Sorry if I said that in a way that would cause any confusion.
And thank you tremendously to everyone who's commented on this. Your words really help me have more faith in my skills as an artist. I know that if we all just focus our skills on a goal we really care about we can create wonders. :)
Amazing! only 2 hours and its already highlighted. I think this is definitely worthy of a highlight. I agree with shinn about how its totally different from what we usually see.

I totally agree! Personally, I think action pieces are so hard! if you make mistakes on the blurring, the piece can come out so odd-looking and you cant get the effect you want. But the way you did is perfect. Not so much blurring that you can't tell whats going on, but enough so that they look like theyre going at high speed!
hahah, when I first saw the wallpaper I actually thought this scene occured in the movie (thats how good this is!) and then I realized that Ashitaka originally wasnt in the little stampede. hehe.
Amazing work on combining the two scans!
I love the movement and the atmosphere
and the fire you added gives the wallpaper a great touch of fantasy and action!

I agree with AP on this one, this piece deserved to be highlighted. AMAZING JOB!! I fell in love with it the minute I saw it and just had to download it. Superb. That's all. ^_^ *faves*

Fantastic piece of work. You truly did mange to capture the intensity and essence of the moment in this wallpaper. I would also like to compliment you for the awesome job of using motion blur which is executed with much skill (I'm typically not a fan of this kind of blurring but this is a great exception!).
It is of no surprise that your favorite portion of the project; the embers look realistic and animated and generally add levels of action to your wallpaper rather than just being unnecessary noise as apparent in some other walls.
My only gripe is that you didn't decide to release it in 1920x1200 resolution as planned (I'll probably PM you for a request later, so don't be surprised)!
Certainly a highly regarded piece of work here, definitely a top pick this month. Thank you for your work and efforts!
Wow this is breath taking it fills like im right in the movie.this shows that you a lot of creativity in you.if Hayao Miyazaki saw this i think he would be pleased on how well you captured the characters im this wall.
Your creativity and the motion of this wall is superb. i usually like a little more photoshop magic, glow-wise, but this is really a dynamic scene. great job!

So I was just looking around the Scan Gallery and came across these two for Princess Mononoke:

The placement of the two and the angle were just so similar that I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Plus that empty space in front of the wolf was just begging to be filled.
