This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
A wallpaper I worked on a while ago. The theme was life; it had to have something to do with life. I'm not sure if the connection is clear enough, though. I made this with simplicity in mind as the final goal. Simple, but not boring.
The image was extracted from a scan of the cover of volume 3 of D. Gray-Man. I.... I guess you could say combined a bunch of tutorials to make the water with the ripples and everything, as well as the distorted reflection.
Some problem areas:
How to make the transition from the actual to the reflection? The part where her legs go into the water. I wasn't sure... it looks kind of awkward.
Also, I couldn't help but feel it's a little plain... kind of empty. But I can't think of any way to make it not empty without taking away from the simplicity of it.
The water and background looks too "clean" for the scan which is in fact a manga. Either recolor the manga scan or put some texturing/patterns on the BG to blend it better. As for the reflection, it's alright except that it doesn't have to be that long/go all the way and reflect the head of the character. The opacity of the reflection could be lowered as well since the water looks really dark/it's not a mirror.
The extraction on the scan could use some more attention, I see some white flack still there. Try selecting those areas with the lasso tool and using the image adjustment features in PhotoShop to blend them in with the background. Other than that (and wishing it where available in higher screen resolutions), it'd say it's quite a beautiful wallpaper, well done! :)
Grungy textures would fit but I still think this wall should be clean. So I'll advise you to vector/clean the scan and blend it better. I like your water. ^^

Any suggestions?

What kind of texture or pattern would you suggest using?
