This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Nah, I don't want new ones I need these ones to break in more. But my left thumb is really hurting right where the knuckle is >.< I guess I have some bad habits on my left hand.
The innitial idea for the wall was for it to be a protrait wall, because I throught it would have been something just a little bit different than the usual. But as things went on it started to look a bit too cluttered and odd, so with the crits I got from Session Zero I started to turn my wall around (no pun intended). So with those crits in hand I sought help from the guys and gals in the #animepaper channel and I was welcomed into the channel with open arms. In Session Zero dhias suggested a mirror idea that I liked a lot, so I asked if she could lend me a hand in fine tuning some of the ideas for the wall and she graciously said yes. After that I went and revectored the scan of Rukia in Illustrator, because the original I started to vector in Photoshop. I had trouble making Rukia's second arm, since only one of her arms are shown in the scan, so dhias came to my rescue and sketched me an arm to vector, which turned out pretty well. I was then having some trouble deciding what kind of backdrop to have so I looked to the channel to help and dhias suggested a spacy backdrop and I liked the idea so she created one for me, since I'm still getting used to walling. The next thing that came was the mirror, made with the help of a ripple tut from Nat's website ( http://ningen.nattoli.net ). The final major step was the text for which I knew what I wanted to say, but I just didn't have the perfect font to say it with, to which dhias again offered her assistance, and might I say the test turned out quite lovely. With a few final texture tweaks, we deemed the wall finished, so here it is and I hope you enjoy it.

"The idea behind this wallpaper came from the opening of the Magic Knight Rayearth anime where Hikaru and her evil twin were reflected in a glass like mirror. Since the original scan did not have Rukia's hand touching the mirror, I thought it would be a nice touch to draw in the hand. I sketched it in and Hawk16zz vectored it. The background was made with textures from Tama-Neko's DA website, and the fonts are GoblinHand and Carpenter."

So it was a kinda collab XD~! hmz...nice, like how it turned out. still the vector looks kinda weird, but the most parts of the vector looks good.you did a good job on it. the bg...yeah...I'm not sure about that =/...but it's not bad, the ripple looks good. keep the works

I like it very much - dark green & drk blue combined eith black backround.
I think the reflection looks great.Congratulations, you made a kick ass wall :D XD!
I actually sent dhias my comments before I checked if this was submitted already. Sorry about that. I'm just going to cut and paste my comments, so you too would know what I think.

Sweet. Just a few things you may want to look at: (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I just woke up...)
1. I know this isn't really your problem, but is the hand really supposed to look like that (the one that isn't touching the mirror)? It looks odd.
2. Nice job creating the other arm! If the hand wasn't only slightly smaller than the existing one and if there were folds and wrinkles on the sleeve where Rukia's arm is bent, I wouldn't have known you made it yourself.
3. Maybe you could nudge the ripple to the left a bit? The horizontal center of the ripple isn't aligned with where Rukia's fingertips meet, so it looks odd, I think.
4. Really good job with the font. I don't know if this is possible in Painter, but in Photoshop, you can change the blending mode of the text outline. If you can make the text outline a little more subtle, I think that would look nice.
5. I think the colors of the background are great. It would probably look better if the change in color wasn't so sudden. From green, the background suddenly changed to blue and it stays blue, so that makes the green part a bit distracting. Maybe you can make the color transition a little smoother?
This is a nice wallpaper. Not too clustered and it fits quite well with "finding yourself". The only problem I have is her sleeves, perhaps they need to be bent or have wrinkles ?
Hehe, Heya Hawk, decided to drop a comment. I apologise about the length in advance.
Alrighty~ Now I've heard a great deal about Bleach, love the manga though I've only read the first two volumes, but nonetheless~ Anyways, I've been seeing you randomly post links about how you've been progressing with this and first off let me start off by saying you made EXCELLANT progress with your work. I commend you for not only being able to accomplish what you in such quick time, but it looks simply astonishing.
First off, with the mirror idea. First off I think it is probably one of the most unique concepts I've ever seen portrayed. Now I know, the mirror idea has been done before, so why is it unique? I can't say I've ever seen it done like this before. Just soley seems as if Rukia can pass through the mirror, which honestly really made it hold true to the title of the wall, 'finding yourself'. I have to applaude you as well for making Rukia's second arm. Honestly, I'll be serious. I was rather skeptical when you first started doing it about how it would turn out, mainly because it does look kinda odd, but the more and more you worked at it..the better and better it got and I will say this with complete honesty, you did a freggin' fantastic job in the end making that arm look as it if WAS there to began with. Just..simply stunning how perfect you were able to create it and just the natural look it has. Though, I will say I am far too use to seeing it without the arm, so it does take some getting use to at first, but I will tell you that when I looked at the finished product, If I hadn't seen the scan prior, I would of assumed that she always had both arms shown in the scan. *claps for a job well done*
Second, I want to comment on the mirror effect. Dhias has quite the unique idea and the way its portrayed as well is just..really something like what I've never seen before. (I haven't seen all of MNR) It..really was just a beautiful idea and though it seems as if shes more of passing through sorta like a stargate (Yes, I am a nerd) it is quite clear that it is a mirror~ Of course, the reflection is perfectly matching with just that right amount of shade to give it that true mirror image effect, yet not so much as to where it stands out or to little to where it looks like a ghost. The ripples really give it that finishing touch and yet once again, just the right amount to where it does give the effect of the mirror being touched gently (seeing as no brute force is being used XD) To me, it was the overall mirror image and the perfect effect of the mirror being gently touched enough to create those ripples that you really get a magical-type feel from this wall (doesn't need to be any effects, but its there =P).
Third, the scenery. The background gives the perfect feeling of just being in a cold, damp, dark cave and honestly, the whole scenery + mirror really just reminds me of a sci-fi movie plot or prehaps a pathway to an alternate world. Just the amount of color used fits just right and giving the effect of light being casted upon a granite wall (just simply random, not saying the exact enviorment) I think you really did a perfect job and it fits the entire mood the scan creates. Just a very subtle scenery.
Overall, what can I say? I think you outdid yourself. I have to say it was something I was somewhat cautious about to began with but you went and did what I would of considered extremely difficult. Congrats. I am honestly greatly impressed, I think the text is very fitting as well and just the way the whole wall comes together is just..sheer beauty. A favorite for me. There is no doubt about that.
Sweet you two this kicks love the idea its really unique xD The vector rocks and I love the ripple and grunge BG. Plus dhias did an awesome job on the text lol! Keep it up! Lets see some more.
Sweet wall, the vector is clean and crisp. I didn't see the original source for the vector, but from your description... you did a good job on reconstructing the other arm! From the thumbnail view it looks as-though Rukia is both a shinekami and an angel (white and black)... a really interesting contrast (from my perspective!)... I think it's the way the clothes look like wings in the reflection. Very nice work! keep it up! ^_^
Ahh cool so it's a collab. good job both of you. I like the way the mirror like area came out compared to what you originally had. I think the backdrop you came up with was also a good idea. For still learning how to wall this is really good imo so keep up the good work
Hey hawk. ^^ My comment won't be able to beat cy's over there xP but nonetheless ~ =)
Alright, let's start with the background ~ I must say I love the different blends of murkish aqua greens fading into lighter turquoises to stormy dark navy blues and then fading back again. It almost gives off the feeling of a reflected pool of water back onto stone; an effect difficult to create- at least from what I've seen before. Not to mention that they really catch an eye as well and help the viewer focus in onto the subject of the wall. Some of the colors are bright and attract your attention straight away though they don't pull out or extract too much from the main purpose of the wall either. Love the textures that were used as well. It looks awesome and came out really well. Props to dhias for the magnificent job.
Next, the mirror ~ I have to say... I love the ripple effect. Can't say I've ever seen that used in a wall before and definitely a great way to bring in the mirror effect. Kind of reminds me of the matrix. =P Don't know if you've seen the first movie before but the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that was the scene where Neo touches the liquidy wall/mirror thing and it ripples. Dhias-chan's idea was an awesome one. It frankly looks spectacular, and you did a fantastic job with that as well, which brings me to the scan ~
I honestly love Rukia. She's just such an awesome character and I really like how you portrayed her in this wall. It was certainly nice of dhias to sketch out an arm for you, and you vectored it very well, too. If one hadn't known, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't've even've guessed it wasn't a part of the scan to begin with... And the way you reflected her off the other side of the wall--- I really like the idea of switching the colors around a bit and having it fade as well. It corresponds very nicely to the title of your wall and definitely brings it out into meaning. Magnificent work being able to illustrate the meaning into the wall and it's definitely something to be able to admire about the wallpaper as a whole and not to mention it's creator as well.
Last but certainly not least, the text. I must say the fonts chosen are quite impressive. I agree with you when I also say that dhias did a wonderful job helping you find the perfect font. I love the way the word "yourself" seems to be underlining "finding" and just put together it looks great. Nice how you had the colors around it somewhat glow as well to bring it out. It really fits with the wall.
Nothing much else to say but just outstanding work with everything you did and to dhias as well for the advice, assistance, and suggestions. Keep it up and I'll only look forward to commenting more of your work in the future. As you've probably already guessed =P definitely a +fav for me. ^^

Other than that, I think it's superb. :)
