This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I got one of those GIANT jaw breakers and my boyfriend freaking slurped through HALF of it last night while I was asleep. Now I won't get the surprise of all the different colored layers D8

alrighty then, ^_^ this new noisy style that I've been seeing in many walls lately caught my attention and my "un-original sense" began to tingel, so I diceded to copy it and make my own wall with it. I achived the effect I wanted by setting everything under my trusty rust texture and using the noise filter as I saw fit. I think The background and Reki are perfect for each other, especially when you consider her dream as a Haibane. I decided to leave out the halo because it really seemed out of place.

We Will Become Silhouettes
I thought it was an interesting name...
I've got a cupboard with cans of food, filtered water,
And pictures of you and i'm not coming out
Until this is all over
And i'm looking through the glass where the light bends
At the cracks
And i'm screaming at the top of my lungs pretending
The echoes belong to someone
Someone i used to know
And we become silhouettes when our bodies finally go
Ba ba ba...
...and a very fitting one when you consider Reki's role in the series.
I like the scan you used, it works nicely with the backround. Though, did you make the backround yourself? Because it looks like it is just an image with some filters thrown on. Beside that, the huge and extremely dark shadow looks odd. Where is the light coming from? I would guess from behind her, since it seems like a sunset (rather, it is a huge planet. I personally think that doesn't match with the anime at all. Though, I haven't seen it yet so who knows?) The text seems odd being so up in the corner like you have it, maybe you should move it down lower... around the steps, and change the font to something more attractive.
That's one beautiful background, I must say you did a great job combining colors and effects, all of my critics are directed to the main character's image, you should try to soften up all the edges cause they look pretty rough and in my opinion they don't allow the image to blend properly with the background, the wings lower parts seem to be incomplete and it looks like you tried to cover some rough edges with blur (even if that's not the case), they would look pretty good if you find a way to make them look more neat in the tips, you could try to extract the scan all over again or fix it part by part, I'll be waiting for your upcoming works and hopefully for a retouched version of this wallpaper. Great work ^^.
This is a wall unlike anything I've ever seen before. I'm completely at lost for words strong enough to describe the beauty of this wall. Excellent work.
That background really reminds me of 'Place Promised in our early days'... for this reason i can't seem to shake it off and enjoy the wallpaper as much... it looks like Reki does blend in well with the rest of her surroundings though.
It's such a preety wallpaper ^_^
I just love the rustyness of it and the scan you used and it was a good decision for not leaving the halo ^^
Great Job
Her sleeve (on the stretched out hand) appears to have different brightness/contrast on left and right side. you might want to correct that unless if it's some sort of desired texture effect. it looks like touch up job wasn't completed upon stitching the scan.
the background reminds me of beyond the clouds (maybe that was your inspiration?). great color choice and composition. i'm glad more people are making widescreen wallpapers :) definitely a favorite.
The scan doesn't seem to have a clean cut on one of the sleeves and a bit on the bottom of her coat. and the moon or planet thing seems to be too big, if it should be there at all. but i like the bg and the scan both have the rusty-rugged look. the sky is beautiful and i like the lighting.
I love the scenery, it's top-notch. Why do you always add a planet in your walls? XD I think this wall could live without a planet for once =P The effect's a bit weird, but I think it's the one you're going for. The text can do some work =P The motion blur makes the wall lean towards an old photo style look =/ Great job nevertheless, keep working! ;D
I think a lot of the complaints listed thus far are pure personal preference and nitpicking.. The character looks great- only minor extraction issues that have little impact on quality. I really like the blending and overall feel of the wall- it all comes togather quite nicely. The old watercolor look really works well for this wall, and the stock integration (I assume it's a photo at least). Very good feel overall. I like th text.. looks fine to me. Too bad it is a notebook res. +fav
Well there.....nice job taking 2 images and blending em in rather nicely.....
some people wouldnt even notice lol
atleast you took the time to give her a nice shadow...even though its too big
.....try a little bit harder next time

i could see a vertical line on her right sleeve, maybe you cropped something and forgot to disable that layer or something,
aside from that, did you overlay a texture on the main character? if yes i think it kinda made the image a bit dirty coz haibane's art already looks textured and adding more to it would make it extremely grainy, as in this case it can be seen on her coat anyway that's what i can add aside from the others have mentioned

The wallpaper is very great!! the character and the wallpaper are really compatible with each other. but i wonder if you reli drew the whole background? or it's from antoher scan?

The bg left me speechless...awesome... the pic looks out of place a bit, actually a bit unnatural, especially the wing (i would lov it more if she is wingless). the character looks like she is holding something invisible instead of clutching something.(i jugde it from the position of her trumb)
you are definitely great in delivering the mood. she is like looking for somewhere to belong (linkin park rockz in the wall). silhouettes... a great name, lonely, lost and forgotten. i give your bg a distinction.
