This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Since i always go for the clean vectored look in my wallpapers, i wanted to go with a grunge feel while maintaining my simplistic/clean style.
ok i did the grunge bar first by using a variety of grunge brushes and color overlays to achieve that rusty/sepia toned color (which i think contrasts well to the black background ^^), i also used a pattern (the spiked wheel thing) found on the actual CD of the second soundtrack. slapped in some text, (L + KIRA) and a couple of pics. Background is simply black with a little glow at the top.
Now onto the fun part hehe, one of my favorite moments in death note was when L challenges Kira to kill him via the TV. (episode two i think) anyway i wanted to make a tv with the L logo on it, I'm quite proud to say i made it completely from scratch (wasn't all that hard really lol), the interesting bit is the inlay around the screen, this took quite a while as i found it hard to get it looking right ><, plus the little features such as the ON button and flippy panel thing lol. I wanted to make it glow like a TV in the dark (duuh!) which i think turned out alright, and the reflection of the screen added to this hopefully.
man i really love that tv!
And as for the vector work at the bottom i started out wanting to make some sort of smoke effect that is creeping out towards you but it didn't really come out as i expected, still good though... XD. left it quite faint as to not distract from the central tv and grunge bar.
I really like this ^^ I think it's a very creative work, the sniny monitor and the faded L images behind it create a "loneliness" feeling ^^ You think: It's dark because L's gone... Really awesome ^^ Very good work (+fav)
Ohh the tv is lovely.. and the reflection looks nice too..
what i don't like much are those lines at the sides... they lack something to blend well... also the text could be better too
other than that you did a great job on that tv...
keep up!

I like how this turned out! =] The dark atmosphere and symmetry is quite good. I just don't understand the curly things to either side ^_^; Still excellent work. This will go to my favorites. :)
