This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
After just finishing The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, I decided to make my first wallpaper, I have been wanting to try a nice simple wallpaper for sometime, I usually over think it and go overboard, this time I think I managed to refrain.
Thank you for your feedback, I have read some of your comments and changed some of those things accordingly.
Verite - The whole Haruhi's world thing was what I was trying to get across and Im glad someone else saw that too :D.
Kuman - I lowered the whole image and I do think its better placed now, but the clean text didnt fit at all so I chose to draw one with my mouse, lol not that easy, the gradient thing I chose not to do either, Im looking for this background to be very simplistic using colour only where necessary.
Arez - Yeah I was 50/50 on the floral being over Haruhi's hand, but with that comment I decided to take it away and also drop the colour on it to fit the rest.
Spirit - I added a little bit on the right, but I wanted to leave a space around the tree and rope swing, because of the scene with Haruhi on the rope swing in the show. Oh and a widescreen version will be available once Ive got the wallpaper adjusted correctly.
Bluewitch - Its ment to be contrasting, Haruhi and the world around her.
some comments would be removal of the bunny on the bottom right, shorten the decoration below her head ( shorten , do not delete ) and bring the whole image down so that the girl is at about 1-1,5 inch from the bottom of the screen.
add gradation so that the screen is too bright, bright color at the bottom darker colour at the top.
20% blue tint on top and 0% tint ( white ) on the bottom
add text on the top part of the screen, use clean fonts like verdana / century gothic
and inverse colour them ( the text is reverse gradation of the background )
I like the background. The only thing that I really found "weird' with your wallpaper was how the brush work around Haruhi's hand is in a layer that his above the scan, thus covering it up. I personally may have done it so that her hand is on top of the brush work, but to each his own I guess =P. I think my main concern is that the brush work around her hand is really busy, especially compared whats overlapping her arm on the other side. However, I understand it can't be helped-the brush work has to be symmetrical =P
The scan was a good choice, the shadow she casts looks like she's about to knock the building down, which in "closed space" could very well happen lol.
I just finished the series a few days ago as well. Glad to see I'm not the only "slow" one around here lol, good luck with the rest of the paper!
I love it... just try to reduce the frames aroud her.. used less of.it... . but by the rest its ready to submission... nice wall... hope to see it soon so i can used a + fav fpr sure
The pattern under her head is a little distracting. Maybe if it were a reflection or a shadow it would work better. Otherwise, this wallpaper is awesome.
Okay now the building on the right helped a bit, I see you want to leave the empty space round the tree but you should continue the "ground line" from the tree to the building to make it not look like a gap or sompt...
And maybe place the building a little higher to make compact skyline with other ones.
About the brushes under her head...the thing that bugs me is the whole bg with buildings is kinda sketchy style and the brushes are smooth so it doesn´t fit well together.
Brushes under her head are a good idea but I think you should work on them like you did the text to fit the wall.
Hmm and I hope this is not the final resolution...1024x768 is small, And it always helps for the ranking of the wall if it is bigger.
Gees I suppose this was bit rough at you... =P
C´mon make this perfect! =)
Waa, a amazing concept! Very original!. Really... well, the right side looks a little bit solo, so it be good if you put some buildings there! And remove that brush on the Haruhi shirt hehe (Right side). You can add some clouds, like that style, and add some shadows in that syles too, im sure it will be looks awesome!

Arez has claimed Youko
Come get your claim with the Frenzy FanboysMy point is to continue the line of the city scape, now it ends with the treee and than there is a white gap, try to finish it to the edge of the wall, maybe move the scan with landscape like kuman said, yeah and the brushes under the character kinda don´t fit the wall style...
Just no gradient please, it´s so cliché...
Other than that very cool, simple and stylish idea =)
