This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I was sitting in my chair one day and said, "Hmm which anime should I do a wallpaper for next..." Then I decided to do one on Bleach because it definitely needs more wallpapers... /sarcasmoff. When I scrolled through the Bleach scans I fell in love with this scan. I went and vectored it because I have been obsessed with the pen tool lately .
The name "Urban Flow" came up when I stood back and looked at the wallpaper. It looks like a piece of metal that had all these pieces wielded together. Then spray painted and then had another layer of painted added by roller pins or sponges. Ichigo also has headphones on and you buy headphones from stores in the city :O. I also added buildings on top and the background is suppose be lightly stained paper. Kind of like when you walk down a street in a city and there's trash blowing by on the floor. That's the urban or city-like part of it. The spray can was added later on because when I think of the city, I think of graffiti. Originally the spray can wasn't blended into the wall and appeared to sit on the wallpaper. But it got changed into looking like it was painted on the paper and washed a bit.
The flow part of the name comes from the design itself. The arrows represent the wind blowing in different directions. The curly lines are suppose to be clouds.
I hope you guys are able to feel the wallpaper. Enjoy.
I think everything on this wall it´s great, the colors, textures... but Ichi´s right eye looks weird. uhhh... I don´t know how to say it in english, in spanish we have the word "vizco", dunno, he looks weird. anyway everything else it´s great ^^
I like the changes you made!
Glad you kept the spray can, and I think you found a good way to incorporate both the can and your title into the wall while maintaining balance and composition. Great Wall!
It's very simple, but it works really well. Great job with the textures and background. I particularly like the vector style in the purple areas - the arrows and spirals give it some great personality.
