This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Well, I finished this saturday after watching the last few Tenjou Tenge episodes, on the 22nd episode about 9 minutes in I saw Shin-san standing there and I was like "I must vector that!" so I did and made a wallpaper with it =D. I used the quote from Shin when he was talking about fate and asked, "Can you hear the sound of fate?" and broke into a little monolouge:
SPOILER (click to view)
"Every raindrop doesn't just fall in a certain place by chance. The atmospheric temperature, the wind direction and strength... every drop falls exactly where it's supposed to. Destiny merges into another destiny, then meets with an even greater destiny. Just like how a puzzle is put together piece by piece. Eventually everything flows into a lake. That's what you call fate. It's easy to just listen to the rain fall, but I don't know what each drop means."
I put the last sentance on the bottom of the wallpaper because I liked it ^.^, anyways...
The screenshot was created from two instances:
And the finished vector:
Enjoy! =D
Oooh, and I made a low contrast version because I was playing around with the opacity on the render and I kind of liked it at 50%, but not enough to make it the main wallpaper, but here it is if anyone wants to take a peek-see (sorry it's only in widescreen):
EDIT: Haha, I forgot to mention the eyepatch ^.^, it's not a nazi sign =P and cptnbunghole was nice enough to give a good description of what it meant before the nazi's used it (ty btw =):

About the Crux Gammata ( The Swastika )
Its the ancient Symbol of Buddhism and an actuall symbol/word in the japanese language known as manji. Its a very honrable symbol and I have learned alot about it due to the manga known as Blade Of The Immortal were the main character has taken the Manji (Crux Gammata) as his name and personal symbol. Here is a direct explanation taken fromt he manga (Blade Of The Immortal) explaining the swastika.
The main character in Blade of the Immortal, Manji, has taken the "crux gammata" as both his name and his personal symbol. This symbol is also known as the swastika, a name derived from the Sanskrit svastika (meaning "welfare," from su - "well" +asti - "he is"). As a symbol of prosperity and good fortune, the swastika was widely used throughout the ancient world (for example, appearing often in Mesopotamian coinage), including North and South America and has been used in Japan as a symbol of Buddhism since ancient times. To be precise, the symbol generally used by Japanese Buddhists is the sauvastika, which moves in a counterclockwise direction, and is called manji in Japanese. The arms of the swastika, which point in a clockwise direction, are generally considered a solar symbol. It was this version (the hakenkreuz) that was perverted by the Nazis. The sauvastika generally stands for night and often for magical practices. It is important that readers [or in this case, watchers!] understand the the swastika has ancient and honorable origins, and it is those that apply to this story [deviation], which takes place in the 18th century [ca. 1782-3]. There is no anti-Semitic or pro-Nazi meaning behind the use of the symbol in this story. Those meanings did not exist until 1910.
Sigh* I know this is a long description with lots of pictures but I hope you can see past that xP, well, to appeal to the crowd I've made a textless version for all =D (sorry I don't know what to do about the nostril, I think it looks fine imo and I can't really change anything now without totally remaking the wallpaper):
1280x1024 -
1600x1200 and the like -
and of course, widescreeners (starting at 1920x1200) -
If you do use a textless version instead, pls take the time to just click the dl link so the counter can go up, I like to know how many people are dling ^_^.

Its a nice vector...but the wall over all just feels empty with just the face... and about the swastika, the swastika spans more than 3000 years. it was a symbol that generally stood for well being or good luck...something in that direction...don't remember the details...but its origins can be found in Sanskrit...so technically the symbol means good...until it was used by people like the Nazi and with that the symbol was given a new meaning...but i still believe its a good symbol...if you look closely at some buddist temples and statues sometimes you can spot the swastika!
