This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I know that Yoko is poorly extracted and has jagged edges, but this is a WIP! Pieced together some nice scenic scans that were in the gallery for the background, added lots of stars, a planet and a moon, and some lighting effects. Got any more ideas for the background? I was thinking of an epic battle scene and some fancy tech/trendy typo somewhere. Thanks in advance!
Very nicely done. Maybe I don't have the eye for it, but I have no problems with the Yoko extraction. The only thing I would like to see is the lens flare effect from the sun in the background toned down a bit. It just seems too excessive to me and draws more attention away from one of the best reasons to use this wallie: Yoko herself! Can't wait to see the finished piece though, keep up the good work.
Overall I like it a lot. The sun glare is a bit off. It's way too intense, and would make Yoko a silhouette. Maybe tone that down a bit or move it to try to match the lighting on her? Show off that skybox a bit more. It's pretty epic.
I can see some of the bumpiness on the scan, but it's really subtle. You could probably get away with it, but it's only a few spots that have it anyway. Others are even harder to notice with the glare from the sun.
I agree, the flare effect could be toned down a bit. And since Yoko's hair is red.. it kind of draws a lot of attention. Maybe adding a little more purple/pink the the left will even it out. It's probley just me, but adding text would be.. how to describe it? An "eh" feeling. The big open area is nice and adding text would kind of ruin it in my opinion. Other than that, I think it looks great so far.
The lighting on Yoko is coming from the opposite direction than the light in the wallpaper itself. With the bright flash behind her, the side of Yoko facing us should be in the shadow. Although the only way to really fix that would be to vector and reshade the image completely.
I like the background a lot though, but as it is it doesn't feel like it works with the scan at all.
I would get rid of the planets.. and just have a really nice cloudy sunset sky. Right now im lovin the sky on the left, if you just continued that it would be nice.. or maybe just have one planet, because 2 is just weird for me. Also, i would but a sort of blue or purple (taken from the bg) tone over the girl, so that the lighting matches her more, right now she doesnt fit too well in the bg. And if shes already got one, make it a tad stronger. and i agree with lana3007's advice on shading.

I'm loving the shadow, beforehand I thought this was a good wall, but now I think it's great. The fact that everything is in perspective is really nice. I'll admit I liked both versions, but this one is much more realistic. Also, any buffs you had with the extraction (at least any I saw) are kinda covered up due to darkening the character. Nice update~!
