This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
EDIT - Version 2 posted (might take a few minutes to show) with hopefully (less) graininess, slight texture and less shadow on Yoko, and less intense solar flare. Thanks for the input!
Background:
Stitched together from this scan and this scan, with a lot of heavy editing. The planet stock came from deviantart, but I had to rotate and change the colors to get it to blend in. There is some painted elements and some light texture to top things off.
Yoko:
The original scan is here but I found a vectored version at 4chan so thanks to Anonymous for that! I had to alter the lighting to better suit the environment and add some light color adjustment filters.
This looks nice on my desktop, so I hope you enjoy it too!
When I saw this I thought it was a wallpaper image of anime Black Lagoon, I do not know and say this because I arrived at this initial completion, I believe that because of the colors, the image of the character and the style of which was designed the character of player of the wallpaper, but is perfect, an excellent job with a mixture of lights dark, which I particularly love! , with a scenario that resembles an apocalyptic scene ... ^ ^ 'But what I mean is that in order loved the work, congratulations!
Wow....Old school that looks good. Nothing screams old school like a scenic wall with a giant Saturn in the background.
Yoko's lookin' good and the sky's that got a giant planet in it instead of a giant cluster nebula of chaos. And now the title's got me thinking of that Dave Matthew's Band song.
Definately a fav get.

Amazing! You did a great job making the background for the wall, and the original color scheme works very well. And yes, thank anon for that beautiful Yoko vector.
I haven't switched my desktop in months, waiting for a worthy successor to my previous image... And I think this is it!

I would favorite it simply by the amount of skill it seems that it took.
The scenery looks very nice, and the colors mesh well. Yoko is well-positioned and obviously looking in the proper direction.
The only thing I don't like is that Yoko's face is buried in the dark corner. That then makes the planet and the light seem a bit overbearing (center part). Of course, I assume that this version fits your tastes better.
that is sweet, man
nice blending of the 3 images in the BG, i think the girl is too clean though against the paintish (word? lol) BG, but it's not glaringly obvious, so a bit of texture over her wouldn't hurt, but that's just being nitpicky :'D
all in all i'm loving it! like i always do with most of your works *hip thrust* <<< haha xD
btw baka she's got no skirt to hike up a little more xD
Oooh, lovely =3 i love the blend of colors you used, and the background in particular looks beautiful. However, I'm not too sure about the lighting on Yoko- its great that you did put some lighting on her to make her fit with the background, but I think it may have come out a little strong...
A very awesome and impressive wallpaper ;-) I like the background and the character is well vectored - two thumbs up - The resolution is good too :)
I don't know this anime but as soon as it's finished, i'll definitely watch it !
The planet looks really great but an earth like with rings is a little bit weird ... Anyway, it looks good and it's well done.
The volcanoes and the colors are so good; it a brillant idea.
Good job & fav.
Beautiful...i just love it..it is so reative and artistic...i really love the cky the color combination is great and wonderful...and is that a planet?? well, if it is, then its beautiful..um..what else can i say? you have done a great job!!

I like the composition and the idea, but I dunno, for me the bg just seems a little grainy, somehow. Maybe it's my monitor or some filter you've used, but the planet and yoko seem sharp and the rocks seems grainy, like noise filters been used just on them.
Also, the fading to black on yoko just seems a bit sharp and a bit extreme to me. I think it would have been just nice to have a little less extreme a fade to darkness.
I'm glad my opinion helped, and I think it really shows in just how good this wallpaper has become from its initial iteration. I couldn't wait to see it in its final form, and it looks like my patience paid off. Superb work.
Very nice wallpaper. Nice use of light and shadow. Awesome looking background. Just the vector that stands out a bit to much. But it looks awesome overall.
Freakin good editing on the bg!
and the colors are..i mean wow!
well the colors and the lighting on the character are kinda weird but the whole concept blends all together in good way.
my only "complain" are the stars, they look not blended well .
except this its a top wallpaper and i wish you high rating.

The background is gorgeous in my oppinion. The colors (which I love btw) go very well together and the blending seems to really work well with the actual scenery. I also like how Yoko appears to blend into the background, yet stick out of it at the same time. Personally I think that was a very nice touch.
I was going to say that I thought that the left side was a little too dark, but after looking at it again I would say that it does in fact work so keep up the good work.
Wow nice wallpaper, the bg is beautiful, i love the color that you have used.
Yoko is Yoko, she is beautiful.
One thing is weird to me is the blending, maybe Yoko is too clean or the BG is a little noisy.
Anyway, i love your work and Yoko.
