This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
oo.. im back from my 2 month walling break xD with a winter Bokura Ga Ita wall! This’ll be my holiday wall for AP, so...have an early early happy holiday! xD
rly, this wall took much longer than it should have, but this is what happens to me, I guess, when I don’t touch a program for so long ><’’I become walling impaired O_o I based the wall off the scan, and basically took a guess (a very creative one lol!) of what came next. Everything was painted with my tablet. < 3
ehh.. the biggest pain were the footprints in the snow, getting the right colors and shape @__@ best was the tree branches *-* lol! for some reason I find it fun to draw O_o except for in the end, when i found out there was something wrong with them, so i had to go back and edit edit edit, which was a pain because i have a bad habit of not naming layers xD
Ah, and, this is also a belated belated ridiculously late bday present for storm and fire, Anna ;D wooo what a late present! Lol! geeezz im such a bad friend for giving late presents xD
Also, interpret the title any way you want ;3

geeez saku, why did you need so much help? O_o
ans: because, I just do xD
You're definitely got the technical aspects down. Now you need to master the design aspects. This wall is very well made, but there's a lot of empty white space that distracts the eyes. Focusing the viewpoint on the characters through making them more vibrant, repositioning the trees, or adding some bushes to emphasize the couple would have definitely made this wallpaper more memorable.
Great work with the wall ^^ The atmosphere is spot-on. All you need now is to master perspective and viewpoint. My advice is to look at photographs, and see how the photographers shape the photos through focus and position. +fav
I like the scan you picked. But the rest of the wall, simply feels like a slave to the scan. I could almost do without everything else in the picture. Sure the snowman and the birds are 'cute' but overall, I can feel the creative process, just as you describe it, simply by looking at the picture. It looks like you found a scan you liked, made it the centerpiece, and then just brainstormed random wintry things so that it could be a full size wall.
It's always dangerous to start with a scan that you really like already. Because of course, you don't want to change it, and you don't want to hide it, and you don't want to distract from it. And that's exactly what we've got here. The composition is front and center, and if I squint just the littlest bit, everything turns to white except our beloved couple. Snow is tricky because it is so homogeneous in real life, making it difficult to communicate distance with it when drawn or painted. So the tiny sleds and tinier trees, help give us reference points to judge the distance. But again, they feel to me more like necessary reference points than anything else. Every time my eyes move from the girl to the sleds, something seems odd.
Overall I suppose that my critical word is that there's something about your picture that feels more like a collection of objects than a coherent world. I'm not so sure that it's your fault. Nevertheless, it seems to me to be lacking cohesion. In the end I can't help liking it better as a close up shot, as in the original scan. Here you've effectively moved the camera out, without enhancing the scene in any significant way. I may be all wrong.
The scene does have a certain charm, but not any more charm then we find in the original scan, I don't think. What's sweet about it is the two of them, bundled up, holding hands, and the gentle forehead kiss. The birds and the snowman just ruin the tender atmosphere. Your intent is probably to appeal to the nostalgic play of childhood. But our couple here strikes me as two young lovers, not as two little kids.
I don't mean to say that the whole picture's a wash or anything. I just get tired of reading comment after comment on every single wall that simply says "I really like this" or "This is really great." Even if everybody disagrees with what I wrote here, at least we will all be engaged in a little bit of critical thinking together because of it. I should mention that I think your painting work is very well done, especially the lighting. Snow has a way of reflecting light and giving everything a soft white glow, and I get a sense of that from the picture here.
I also like the title. Titles are precarious things. Be too specific and you can ruin the experience for your audience. Be too vague, and your audience may miss something significant about your piece. 'That Day' finds a comfortable place right between those extremes. It gives the viewer some direction without being overly specific. Snow Day would be too vague. And First Kiss would be too specific. But That Day allows me to imagine my own story yet encourages me that there is something special about this scene in the story. Consequently, I am able to assign my own unique significance to this scene. And I go away feeling both that something special is happening here that was worth capturing in a picture (which vindicates you, the waller) as well as having my own particular spin on what exactly that something special is that is being captured (which is satisfying for me, the viewer)
So I enjoy the title, the lighting, and the scene, but I don't much like the overall composition. I'll look through your other walls and try to shower you with praise elsewhere. See ya.
Just perfect...
Pretty simple, but it is just perfect cause it got and great scan, and an awesome background that fit great... i saw the scan many time ago, that's why i really like this wall!
I'm not a fan of romantic walls but I have to say that this one is really well done.
Its semplicity is its strenght.
I love the trees in the background and the footsteps, everything blends well
with the original scan.
A really lovely wall, now I want a forehead kiss too xD
Obviously unless something that just blows everybody away comes around in the next week or so, this is going to be the best holiday wallpaper this year. Great job creating the environment, the snowman is well done. I'm always a fan of wallpapers that put you in the mood of the wallpaper (as opposed to some random scan with some random background), you really captured the scene really well.
Nothing like a snowy wallpaper to mark the coming Christmas. The two lovey dovey character adds more to the Christmas and love spirit. Mr. Snowman at the side is unique too. The only problem I find is that I cannot seem to catch the emotions of the character. When I look at it I seem to be confused whether is this is a sad or romantic wall. Other than that, great wall dude!
It's a really sweet and peaceful image; the only thing I'm not so sure about is the positioning of the characters right in the middle of the image. Shifting them to the left or right would have been a better choice, imho. Apart from that, really great work, thanks for sharing it. Fav+
Much better job on this scan than i did...>_<
looks pretty.
loved the original scan too (which is why i attempted it...)
and i failed at my snowman fyi T___T
nice concept...and ofc a fave from me xD
