This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
This is my first wallpaper that I'm submitting to this site, it's pretty simple but I like the color-scheme and how clean it feels.
I made this in Paint Shop Pro in about two hours or so, I was going to keep it for myself at first but I thought that I'd submit it here so I could download some scans. I traced the vector directly from a screenshot from the anime and I think it looks pretty good. If you are like me and hate JPEG artifacts you can download it in lossless PNG here.
'Despair' is such a strong word, pretty much, I can say this wall doesn't convey it. The vector is too simple, and of course, try to be creative with the background, such as mixture of dark colors, etc.
Yeah too simple. (as previously mentioned.)
Perhaps adding your own stylized background would give this wall a boost. Brushes are great for beginner wallers.
Also maybe a broader range of colors for the vector might work too.
And as already stated..... Choose a name that fits the wall best. I see no despair in the image at all.
But hey! Your only just beginning and who knows what you can achieve in the future so good luck and happy walling! ^_^

Well, I'm not gonna go on about the whole "despair" thing.
It's pretty much said.
If you want to do a wall on despair, try getting a screen shot of Itoshiki sensei looking wildly around
before saying "I'm despaired of ____!" thing.
Right now, the wall looks sort of funny (as in "ha ha ha"funny) so maybe you could change the theme to that?

Now I will repeat the thing almost all of those above me mentioned. It's not desperate at all.
However, the simpliest thing is to change the name.
Or you can change the wall if you want to evoke some kind of despair.
And to this version:
Yeah, I love simplicity. I love simple walls, but this is simple too much. I would like to see the hair more detailed, more colors there, some shadowing or something. The face is very plain now, but one half-opened eye could give a life into it.
Try to play with the wall. Simple wall is nice only if every detail has it's place.
And since simple walls haven't got many details, those they have should be perfect.
Hope I could help and don't give up. It's still a great wall for your fist one.
