This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
oringinally this was planned for halloween however once i saw this i couldnt resist but make it into a bright wintery-ish one instead of the dark and dreary one i was originally planning XD i hope it fits the theme ^_^'
generally this is suppose to be a kind of made up place so its not suppose to make sense XDonce i saw the scan from atseiS i decided i wanted to do a candy wall with everything made of candy, well almost everything XD
i had to fix up some parts and recreate others since she was covered a bit such as fixing up her fingers and redoing her hair and i decided to not have her tongue sticking out :) i didnt like the original position of her only leg that you can see so i changed it because it looked too weird all the way out where it was, well in my opinion anyway XD i redid her ribbon and changed it slightly since it looked a bit weird ^_^' i had to recreate parts of her outfit so i reconstructed the bottom of her dress and the sleeves :D
i thought i'd try something completely different from what i would normally do so i decided to kind of do this vexel like in a way :D its a new way for me so i hope this turned out okay :) the hair details took a long time [about 10 hours just for the hair colouring] and my colour pallet i used for it is huge XD since the scan didnt have all that much detail i thought i'd spice it up a bit with my own details so i went a bit crazy with it XD
for the bottom part of her outfit, i wanted it to represent like a swirl of colours, kind of like when one twirls a board of colours where the colours would seem random yet you can see lines of colours XD i decided to do the dress that way so it would also fit with the theme of the background so that her dress seems like a swirly lolly like dress XD
for the background i wanted it to look simpler than the vector of cc so i decided to have less detail in the background in comparison to her yet still have enough detail to not make her seem too out of place :D
i thought to incorporate the colour blue into the wall since its usually associated with the 'cold' colours
for the necklace shes holding i was inspired by those three charm necklaces [faith, charity and hope i think ^_^'] so i thought i'd make my own using a chocolate bar, a jellybean and a round lolly :D
300+ layers since i ended up lossing count of how many layers there are altogether after that ^_^'
this wall took about 60+ hours over a few weeks :)
representations
the candy canes are "street posts"
marshmallows are falling "snow" and "clouds"
round candy/lollipop without the stick is the "moon"
candy wrappers that are flowing in the breeze are "petals"
round shaped lollipops are "streets lamps" or "telegraph poles"
jellybeans are a small "charm" on a necklace and small "stones" or "pebbles" on the ground
candy in wrappers are "stars" and "decorations"
chocolate bar is a small "charm" on a necklace
round candy is a small "charm" on a necklace
thanks for viewing ^^

i also submitted this on minitokyo earlier and it can be found at this link --> Artifical Road on mt
note: i couldnt edit/update the one on mt, this one is the slightly modified version thanks to the comments on mt where i fixed up her leg a bit so i hope it looks a bit better :D
I loved this wallpaper on MT, I'm glad you're submitting it here. Great job on the completion of the image. I knew the scan when I first saw your wallpaper, but it's really amazing how you just changed the whole feel of the original with the new candy land setting you created. Very interesting vector style too.
Oh ho! saw this in MT and fav it there!
just want to copy paste my comment though it dont
have much time but as usual you did a great job on the coloring + the vectoring!
+fav!
I absolutely love this wallpaper. I got it from minitokyo a while ago but its great that you posted it here so more folks can enjoy this work of art. I cant put into words how great it is. You just did an amazing job on everything, this is professional level stuff. I would love for a widescreen version but its perfect as it is so no biggie. Thanks for creatng and sharing such a fine piece of art and I will definitely be adding this to my favorites.
I've seen this wonderful wallpaper at MT and fell in love with it.
The vector work is amazing and it's a nice catch to add the work in process in the description.
Very interesting.
I love the composition of this wall although I first thought "C.C. with so much Candy? What's the point?" After thinking a bit about this I decided for myself that it works perfect with her.
The background is absolutly delicious (wah, I want to have the candy!!)

I love the wall, except I personally don't like so much detail to the vector. Theres just way too much going on in her hair and dress for me. I actually would have liked to see her simpler. Not saying more detail is a bad thing...just tone it down a bit
I do love the background though, it's very cute. And the whole idea is great.
I am a big fan of small details, and this wallpaper has a great deal of them that are really nicely vectored. I almost feel overwhelmed though, there is SO much going on in the wallpaper and so many details, that you are almost lost in the hugeness of it. I'm gonna agree with Kalico that it's almost too much details.
However, this IS a great quality wallpaper, can't wait to see more from you.
You already know I love it, eternal-chan! I used it as my desktop for quite a while too. I just never get over the brilliance of the background ^^ Lovely wall!
Nice job with the vectoring. Seems like the new trend in vectoring is to have tons of lines all over everything. It has lots of nice detail, maybe some could argue too much so that there is not a complete point of focus in the wall. I'm not really sure about some things design-wise like the emptiness at the bottom and the random marshmallows at the top.
Mmm...
This wallpaper looks very interesting, I don't particularly like the background because it's so colourful (and it's candy... But that's just my preference so don't mind me) Also the picture looks like it's lost a point of focus... But besides that it looks like it was worked on with a lot of time, good job with the vectoring it looks very clean and the image is very clear...
Thats all I guess...
Keep up the good work
While i'm normally very fond of detailed vectoring and have done some of that myself, i have to say that i'm rather overwhelmed by just how much there is to look at in the wall. ^^; you vectoring style is interesting and actually, you vector quite well, but i honestly feel like there is too much going on. >__< as a piece of vector art, it'd count as a beautiful feat; as a desktop, i'm not so sure about its practicality. please don't be offended. :x
as well, sorry, but i'm going to be very blunt and say that i think the amount of detail in her hair and dress should be toned down. detail can be gorgeous, definitely, but it is possible to go overboard with it. and the thing about C.C.'s hair is that so many of the shapes are at a near-horizontal angle, leaving so much of her hair jagged. x__x jaggedness is an annoying problem to fix, i know. xD;
but i do appreciate the amount of thought you have put into this wallpaper, as well as the time and effort you invested in vectoring all this. :P be careful with how much "stuff" you put into your background and keep the level of detail at an above average but not excessive amount, then i'm sure you can create memorable and practical wallpapers. :D
I've been waiting for this wall to be on AP! So YAY for you submitting it.
Now let's talk about your fabulous, clean, and sharp C.C vector. It's really cool how you took the scan and totally change the whole mood to it. I don't think I've ever seen C.C in such a happy background. That's a big plus. And looking at it in full view reveals so much amazing details. :D I especially love how you did the hair and dress. Now the background, you know how awesome your background is without me even telling you. All those candies are making me drool and crave candyy. Anyways, this wall really shows your effort. Great Job (I can't stress enough how great of a job you did though).
This wallpaper is awesome! I love how wacky and colorful it is!! The jellybean path looks awesome and I love how the background pops out at you. All the arrangements of color really catches your eye! Great job!
