This wallpaper is a request by my dear friend of...6? 7? Years. XD Lindsay. She goes by Narret on MyOtaku. Anyhoo, she wanted a Saiyuki wallpaper, and she requested that it be a blast of funky colors...well, I obviously didn't do that. Sorry!! I didn't want it to be seizure-inducing so I dimmed it down...except for the orange. I made the orange brighter, and I also made his eyes greener. ^_^ Her favorite Saiyuki guy is Hakkai so I decided to make one of him!
So yeah, the background was all brushwork...lots of layers, overlays, color effects, etc. The brushes I used, well, the credits are on the wallpaper. I started out with the bg being incredibly bright and orange to match the orange's color...but I dulled them because I felt that someone might go crazy if they had such bright colors on the screen! So yeah. Now they're more brown...also because I overlayed some light brown on the scan as well.
The scan took a while to extract, mainly because of his hair...it was a total pain. I hope it looks ok.
Ah yes, and the overlays of more brushes on top of him to give him some sort of texture as well. Makes him look like he has tattoos, right? XD So yeah, I guess that's all. Took over an hour...I never keep track of time. I hope you like it!
Oh well, you already know how awesome it is and how much I love it and the way you used the brushes, from my comment on TheO :) I'll say it again though, it's one of your best wallpapers!

The only thing that i can say i don't really like is the way the drawing on his face are so suddenly cut. They don't seem like they lose their strength under the white light. They just disappera.

WOOT ... smexy orange :3 ah yes the background is really nifty the entire composition has a billboard/prime commercial feel to it .. therefore +fave ... keep up the great work...

I love the brush work on this wallpaper and I love how the flowers blend beautifully on his face and the lone flower around the center of the orange. The eyes also get me everything I look at it. I love this wallpaper. A Fav for me!
A very nice piece of work. I particularly like how you were able to branch out from the light brown color palette with the green eyes and of course the orange, while at the same time still keeping the image harmonious and balanced.
Also some very nice work extracting the hair, that must have been a pain indeed.
You would think with the 5 million or so beautiful Saiyuki scans that are floating about we'd get more gorgeous walls, but no. This is one of my favorite Hakkai pictures. (How does he make eating an orange, one of the messiest fruits possible, look sensuous?) I love the fonts, which is so rare for me. I swear I loath so many fonts these days, so many are overused/badly used. I like the background in general: the pattern, colors, effects.
What I don't like is possibly how tan Hakkai's skin has become through manipulation. I can understand the necessity of some adjustments--I have this picture as a poster over my desk, so I know it well--to match the background better, but it still makes him look too latte-colored. Besides that one fault, I really do love this. It's done so well.
