This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Nowadays the world feels like its full of extraneous signals that tell you exactly what you should and should not be doing, most especially on the roads. Flashing lights and even sound cues at walk signals can lead to an informational overload of mixed signals. When I saw this image of Kino perched on a traffic light, I decided to make a wall in that vein. Traffic lights and signals were traced off of stocks from Stock Exchange; background clouds were also based off of SXC stocks. I like Kuroboshi's flat monochrome works so I kept this wall in that style, with just a little bit of color for the signals. Signal symbols were mostly from Photoshop's default collection of shapes, although I snuck in the Kino logo in one of them, exhorting you to travel more -- because I think that's a good philosophy.
I'm not sure whether Kino looks perfectly at home amongst the urban jungle, or if she's trying to shut herself away from it. Either way would be an interesting interpretation.

I Love your style of wallpapers, they are filled with your perceptions on life and the wisdom to back it up, we live in a quick fixed instant oat mill one hour photo society, cars run over all other means of transportation and are slowly killing us with the crud they smoke out, the dark colors of this wall remind me of the way I see life when I drive in the car of walk on the street the world has a path it follows and it your not traveling on it your called a american reject, Kino took a a path alone and pushed away the way the norm thinks and saw things in a way most people never could, I love this wall it's beautiful and everything it represents, you do great work A++ and a fav kinos one of my all time favorite anime it's nice to see a wall of it now and then
I really like this wallpaper ^_^ It's awesome and the widescreen resolution fits very well in my screen. The color theme is good too. I totally agree in what you stated in your description : the more and more we are told what to do and what not ;-)
Really a great wallpaper : good work & fav.
I also wanted to tell that the textures present on your site in the ressource section are really awesome. They're really good, thanks for sharing them.
As always, Tama-Neko makes a stunning wallpaper (you're waay too talented -_-)
I think Kino doesn't feel comfortable here, but is trying to make the best of the situation...
The Kino logo - great idea, we should travel, the more, the better for us!
So just between us .. you have a magic bottle marked "inspiration" on a shelf some where in the back of your closet and you drink from it and it "opens your eyes " to things not seen by the average right? .. Cause i fail to see how one person can be bursting at the seams with such great natural talent *faints* .. Yet another example of great work by you ...*rubs Tama-Neko to steal some inspiration ...

Nice design principals, the color is a little blah but I like the dark tones. This is an excellent use of vector art, I just don't see anything else working in its place. The background does seem cluttered but that is the overall theme of this wall, and it works well. I like how you grayed out the character and put all of the signal and signs in color, symbolizing the loss of ones self. Great use of text, you actually made it work with your wall instead of contrast and take away from it. Nice concept, keep them coming.
I love the concept and the monochrome-ness. My only complaint would be with the signs... the fontage seems a bit too round and maybe some variation on the sizing of the signs to mix it up a bit. Personally would've loved it if they were a touch smaller, but I guess that is part of the concept... x] Only other suggest would be some reflecting light from the traffic lights on Kino to make her stand out a bit, although I feel like that's one of those suggests that sounds a lot easier to do than in actuality ; D;
Nice concept of a wallpaper.
However, I will say that it lacks focus. Though you are trying to use the Mixed Signal's theme, it still needs too be able have focus. I suggest picking a couple signs and making then stand out.
Because seriously, when you look from afar, it looks like one big brown blob. It lacks contrast.
Amazing Wallpaper~ As expected from you Tama-Neko!
Your wallpapers are always awesome~ ^^ I especially love the Kino ones~ =D
Anyways~ Love the idea of using signs!~
Uwargh...This is a very nice & cool wallie! I really like the color. Those signals are cool. & the best part is Kino is sitting on the traffic light. The color makes this wallpaper looks classic. Very nice & this absolutely will be my fave wallie!

The sign posts are very clever, very well done. I love the monochromatic feeling of this.
Keep it up.

glad you used it so well here :)
i really love this but it looks stupid on my desktop because so many torrent icons cover kino *is sad*
yeah that's really my only complaint. that and that the hand looks a little to wavy in the finger tips, but hey that's being nitpicky.
Have a nice day!
