This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Here's probably my first serious attempt for a wallpaper.
I've always loved walls which are simple and only the main part, the character and the little space around him/her, are complicated and stuff, so I gave it a try, and I think I did well for my first time.
I opened a black canvas, placed Kenshin in the center, lowered the opacity and made 2 brush layers under him. Then with the opacity at 100% I added a few more brushing behind him and then I started adding lotsa stuff above him, like brushing, layer duplicates with different filters and stuff, a couple of textures and then I started playing with the colours, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance, Selective Color, solid colour overlays etc. Then I added another texture that is visible and in the background.
Wonderful. Dark, as Rurouni Kenshin wallpaper is nice to see from time to time. (Usually you see more happy go lucky Rurouni Kenshin wallpapers). What I like especially is that the whole picture looks like it's a torn piece of some kinda ancient scroll. (It looks old/used if you get what I mean). The only thing I don't particularly like is the scan you've used. Kenshin looks kinda weird like this, but "blackening" him did improve him a bit. The random lines around him, remind me of a Death Note Anime Music Video I watched before *goes to take a look* and I must say that they fit well here too. Keep it up.
Very dark and simple, as you said. I think it's effective! Though I'm not sure why, those white lines bother me...hmm...I just think that they could've been blended in a bit more with the black bg? I don't know. XD But um, I think it's cool to see Kenshin break loose like this. "Sanity" is a good title for it. Matches well. Good job!
