*waves* Hi, I understand what your going for and I see you've done a lot of work on the scan already. Which is a terrific thing you've done. The color's match so wonderfully.

As for the background. I think you can still keep the clean and simple idea but still add a bit of scene or just some specific swirl and things.
I would also suggest possibly adding something about her confidence. So, people see it more straight forward. Because when I seen it... All I seen was the girl with the long hair going the other way... like she was the focal point. One of those sad walls.. you know... rejected and what not. So, since its not... i'd do what I can to make sure its known that its a happy and confident wall and that the bold looking girl is the focal point.

But if you found a nice landscape and made it look washed out and faded. Maybe, blurry like. You know. To give it a simple and clean background without making the background to pronouce. It is looked it is empty. From the left party only an inscription, and it does not kill emptiness. A background usual, it was possible to apply even 1 structure, it would become probably more filled. But I всёже would make something with emptiness with is left, or have moved heroes on the center. Or it is possible to add any circles or strips transparent in a background and it will be looked where better.

I see you have changed work - good fellows. Brushes have considerably recovered this wallpapers.
