This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
An Akira wall with the face of Kay (found the scan here), a main character in the story.
For the bg i used the old japanese war flag which became polluted with a filter.
Inside the face i added space, because space is such mysterious as mankinds brain (especially in the story of Akira) and this is why there are some pixels on the face. I also added a bloody mask - i just wanted to play with the colours: black, white, red.
Suitable to the bg i set in a title in Kanji or Katakana, called 'Akira Fan Forever', which is written on the right.
What started with a night-shift because of boredom ended with hard work, but it was worth the effort and i'm happy to be in the gal. So i like to thank all guys for their help, especially Angel-chan, Bladerj, Iroveashe and Leviatan for their suggestions.
Hope you like it

Really nice Akira wall - this is exactly how walls from that movie should be.
I like that you just cleaned that scan rather than vectoring it because it adds to he vintage look and feel of the wall that goes very well with the anime. Nice textures and use of the colour red as well. :) Great job!
Excellent work. Great idea on making the face bleed and having the background be the rising sun, that's some great creativity with your wallpaper. Nice work. +Fav
I'm really glad you got this one into the gallery so quickly. It was good from the start! My fav part is the 'broken' and 'crumbling' flag in the background. That looks so cool and texture is just great!! Keep up the good work! You have very creative ideas for all your wallpapers!

How AWESOME is this? I love this one, the colors are wonderful. Even though it's not the happiest picture in the world, you can't help but stop and admire it. Great work.
