This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
STARSCAPE+CRAZYCOLORS+LOLOLABSTRACT=KICKIN' IT OLD SCHOOL!
Back in the old days of animu wallin, the cool thing was making abstract backgrounds that were totally irrelevant to the subject/character, but still looked damn cool.(or you were a grungewhore like jinzhou.) Vectors were unheard of(unless you were Tama-Neko) and walls with half naked chicks instantly earned you a million favorites. 1024x768 was the standard one size fit all. Those were the days!
Anyway to the wall itself, Both Muz and I love planetarian(AND THERE IS A SERIOUS LACK OF WALLS FOR IT) and actually started on this collab about 2 months ago, needless to say I got lazy. The original scan was a mess with stars and skirts were cut off. Muz saved the day with his leet CG skills(No vectoring here guys.) Stars were done gregmartin-style(you are old if you know this term) with some custom tweaking. I worked on the majority of the background and muz put in some of his own touches as well. Enjoy.
Tribute to all the old school crew of ao, pz, al, mt, & ap.(You know who you are!). Many of you have retired from walling, but your legacies and awesomeness lives on in walls like these. In the words of sirBoingal0t, "old sk00l is coming back >xD"
I IMPLORE YOU FULL-VIEW THIS. The thumbnail looks like crap.
Wow I'm totally impressed I love the abstract feel and composition, it's very well tailored and I love the colors. It has the old school class your talking about pretty girl to bad her boobs aren't bursting out or you would have old school down to a "T" lol. I think you did a really nice job on this and the Inspiration behind the wall itself is what I like most. A+ and a fav
Awesome. I never expected you to take this turn when you were talking about the original concept; I'm glad you took a turn and decided to go 3D after all.
First off, I love the colors you used. They blend with the starscape so well, and make the wallpaper really stand out more. I also enjoyed the ring around ;_;..OH GOSH WHY. THIS WALLPAPER MAKES ME BAWWW.
Though, I wish the ring was a little more distinct-looking, like the rest of your shiny swirls. Kind of looks blurred like that..I've also mentioned this already, but the bottom of the legs kind of look awkward to me when you place her like that. I think it's because there's no shadow there, and I'm just expecting it to be darker under her. But yeah, that'd be weird in a starscape, so..I don't know. (So, I'm curious. Is she the planet? Because then that would just make a whole lot of sense--or maybe that's a horribly obvious statement..)
That is just TOO AWESOME! I like abstract a lot; I've got a giant collection of abstract works which I browse because of the nifty designs/colors/effects (etc), but here you've managed to take abstract art elements and integrate them effectively into an anime wall, and it looks wickedly cool! There is an overall sense of balance, and simple harmony as far as overall colors/shapes go, yet the level of detail involved in the abstract effects is incredible!
The only thing I might try and patch up is the text; specifically, the really small white text at the "top" left (left, at the top of the larger text). It just seems really hard to read, even under full resolution; could this be solved with a slight alteration in the font, or maybe make it slightly larger? Your call, but in the grand scheme of things, this is just a small detail I picked out on, and isn't overly significant.
WE ATEN'T DEAD YET. Just hibernating. And bawwing with Reverie ;_;
Anyway it's all kozu's fault, who talked me into playing Planetarian. It's also his fault for procrastinating it for two months, but he did not let me down. This wall was also my first collab ever and it sure was fun, except for kozus procrastination <_<
I love the wallpaper!! the colour contrast is very gd and the characte is very realistic tooo. work hard and i am sure you can have an even better wallpaper

I know! i know greg martin! remember when planets were so popular some people started getting pissy about it? haha just like what they do in vectors now?! people never change at all always hating xD
anyway! welcome back to walling xD will we wait a year for the next one? haha in all seriousness i think this would work better if you have gone easier on the fractals xD but all in all good job trying to introduce old school to the new ones *high fives* xD

DUDE YOU ROCK MY SOCKS... JUST AS PLANETARIAN DOES
anyways.. I'm faving this because I love the stuff... and it really has that 'old-skool' whatever look, which was very popular and kinda getting rare nowadays. It looks good on your desktop, so why bother with allvectors or extreme 1000-layers grungetype?
oh, and I know Gregmartin, does that make me old? DAMN! XD

Definitely a favorite; a download too, naturally.
