This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I finally bring myself to finished this wallpaper after a couple of weeks dwelling in laziness :D *looks at the clock* OMG I'm submitting this on 2 am!?
Anyway, I really like Totoro, it's one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movie. So I took this scan and vector it. Actually, I didn't want to trace the sprouts, but it turned out kind of weird to see the characters jumping and cheering on nothing. So I reluctantly did it. The grasses are brushed. The clouds and moon are the usual brush & smudge. The black thing in the background is suppose to be a hill (which is also brushed) >_<
The overall color scheme didn't turned out quite like what I expected. I was hoping the colors could look more vibrant -___- I tried tweaking the hue and adding color layers, but it still doesn't work. Whatever...
Thanks to Ta-Chan for nudging me to finish this and for staying with me when the going gets rough.

This is a commemorative wall for my graduation. Yaay!! I'm a MD now emoticon
Edited: Fix the blur clouds and the hills and reduce the blurriness :o
I know it's not that much of a difference from the first version... I couldn't help it >_<
And because some people are curious, here's how I made the background...
I am late, right? but i haven't been around the past week or so... anyway, your wall is simply adorable. :] the vector-painting is well done and i love the detail --> grass. :O i like the sprouts too. the clouds and hills are kinda too blurry for me though...especially the clouds. mostly because they are very noticeable (unlike the hills, which are a lot darker) and can be compared directly to the in-focus characters. the way in which they are painted is a cute style though, non-realistic, which works quite well here.
magical. :D and so +fav. you are brilliant. and congrats on becoming an MD.
Very nice job, I particularly like the halo around the moon, and the effects you gave the clouds!
(Plus, but this is biaised, I love Totoro! XD)
=> +fav!
I love the style of the wallpaper. It has a reminiscence feel to it. It brings back great memories of my childhood. The brush/smudge effect really does emphasize the beauty of this old but yet one of the greatest animations.
Perfectly, this reminds me of an illustration from a kids book- playful swirls & colors
These really good wallpapers make me wonder how much of it was scan & how much was artist's own rendering - I'd be amazed to find that except for the characters themselves the background & setting were done entirely by the artists - gabychan
actually as i read author's comments - he vectored and then smeared with brush, i think - isnt that right? pretty good
