This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
I watched My Neighbor Totoro 2 weeks ago, and after I finished it, I knew that I was going to make a wallpaper from that movie.
I began by searching for a scan. At first i wanted to have the Big Totoro on my wallpaper, with the umbrella, but I changed my mind. I knew I wanted to include an umbrella, so I started playing with my own to see if I could get a few concept ideas from it. I turned the umbrella upside-down and imagined two smaller totoros inside it. I thougth it would look cute, if I can manage to do this wallpaper.
I vectored the umbrella from this Totoro scan, the Middle Totoro and the Little Totoro from this Totoro scan, the little black thinks, I don't know their name in english, I made them myself.
For the seeds I used several stocks I vectored them too (used: this page and this page). For the flower I used also a photo, and vectored it, but I don't remember which page i took if from, and despite all the searching, I coudn't manage to find it again either. >.< When I was finished wirt this all, I added the rain, with help of this tutorial, and searched a good font for the text. I added a little texture too, I found on DA!.
Many many thanks to Yina, Shigemitsubaki, Saku and Dan for their help, critic and support. :)
Haha, sure no problem >_< But too bad you didn't add a horizon, I still think it'll look better with it xD What else to say, great work on the vectoring and the scan you chose is really cute @_@
I like the simple look of this wallpaper as well as the cute title attached to an equally cute image. Even the font has a cuteness to it, overall it looks great as it perfectly fits with the characters used, great wallpaper overall :)
I loved that you featured the mini totoros and the concept of the umbrella used as a floating device its whimsical and really works with this scene. I also adore that you included the soot sprites because I think they are grossly underpresented in Miyazaki wallpapers. Good Job!
The help i gave was no problem at all, would be appreciated if you listened me. but well
as i said, the rain wasnt needed on the whole wallpaper because the simple motive its a simplistic wall.
random brushes all over it will only decrease the focus on that objective, and thats bad...
however you misregarded my advice.
anyway
the concept is nice, however it needs its touches here and there.
