This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
The fact that this wallpaper was originally derived from a black and white manga page really impresses me.
Furthermore, all the elements in this wallpaper were vectored fom various sources, which can be a real pain to do. And the way the bandages were so believably vectored without any reference also gives insight to the skill that led to this amazing wall.
As icing on the cake, the colours are well chosen, favoring more subdued tones as compared to the rich colors in most vector walls.
I was trying to recreate the End of Evangelion scene on the beach at the end. The original image that I used was actually a black and white scan from a manga issue that I've had for a while. (http://transluscent.net/wallpaper/asuka_source.jpg)
So, first I vectored the image of Asuka. To do so, I had to spot the colors from another image, and I also had to recreate the bandages because the original image did not have them in it.
Next I had to create the beach scene. This actually turned out to be pretty hard in the long run just because I went through a ton of different ways to do it (Photoshop effects, stock) and finally used an image of Rei Ayanami at the beach in my there Mond artbook to vector the ocean that you see. (As a note, the ocean is red in the movie, I went back and watched it to double check.)
After that it was a matter of painting, texturing, fixing the sand, and adding the cross, which I also vectored from an image of Misato.
Very very cool wallpaper. Really. The style of your vector (lacking of outlines in some areas) reminds me of Tama's earlier works and it's pretty nice. the sand and the water (finally someone who draws the water like this and doesn't use lame filters) are also pretty nice. The text doesn't exactly convince me though, you should either remove it or trying using a better serif font, in my opinion.
But overall speaking I like it, and it's worth to be faved.
I really like this style of vectoring too.
The way you draw the water is pretty uncommun and it goes well with the vector of Asuka.
I better like the version with the text without it lacks of something I think.
The font doesn't botter me so much, I like it, but I think it could have been nice to add something like a little line art asround it or beside it.
Just a suggestion ^^

Really nice. I'm impressed that you managed to recreate so much. The art style on this is really interesting, simple but intriguing. This is very pretty and going on my favorites as a really unique example.
This is a really good wall. The sand and water are very well done. The Asuka vector is pretty well done. I particularly like the way the arm is in bandages with them falling off. Also the torn up plug suit. Very nice.
The thumbnail was not as attractive as the full size wallpaper, i thought it was another nice wallppaper but realize it was very nicely done when view in full size
I think the one thing I really enjoy about this wallpaper is the muted colors and the look as though it's been painted onto something like rice paper. The softness is really quite different from a lot of anime based wallpapers I have seen, which makes it a subtle look for my desktop. Great work!
I like the muted colors. love how the ocean was done. I like the spare use of outlines and the vector of Asuka really fits with everything. The font is fine for me either way. This is really simple and beautiful!
I'm really liking the red sea. Very neat concept w/this wall. I love how Asuka's lying on the sand and staring blankly out at the water. Cool idea to put the cross there, too. Very nice ^^
Nice work.. (I had this scan next in line to vector...)
I don't think the water has near enough detail, especially in the foam. But it works..
On a side note, the original art is copyrighted to Mr. Sadamoto, not Gainax.
Would you care to upload the vector in the scans gallery? If not, I will.
(Not to sound confrontational or anything, just saying..)
Very, very decent NGE wallpaper. I loved the ending of "End of Evangelion" - and this wall reminds me of it... very very good. I love it! Of course +fav!
That is one of the best NGE walls I've ever seen. It looks like you put a ton (A TON!) of work into it, too. I love all the subtle touches with the bandages and Misato's cross on the sand along with the red sea. You really did your homework on that last one. And the mood you create is pretty much perfect. All the textures come across very nice as well and not too overbearing.
Wow, this is REALLY nice. I love the vector of Asuka and the bandages add a great touch to the whole feeling of the wallpaper. Great job! A fav for me!
