This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
At last, I have finished! I've been working on this image for the better part of two months (I first began in March, slowly, slowly picking away at progress.) It wasn't until I recently finished watching the show that I understood the significance of this scene. The idea was to recreate the original image, with the two in their secret hideout... Actually, I just wanted to wall Franz, because he's the only guy with a Clue™ in the entire series, it seems. Scans from Minitokyo (I wish I'd had access to the ones Nat had placed here, since I had to redraw the gutter stuff from the MT scans). Background bricks and stone frame textures from ImageAfter; same goes for the overlaid 'old photograph' style texturing. Stained glass window copied out of a screenshot (I was going to redraw it, but was too tired at that point). Many of the floral patterns are from French-Treasures which is actually a seller of gorgeous French textiles - it fit well, considering the setting. As for the title, people sometimes say they're "high on life" well... these two boys sure are drunk on it - literally.
Vexture :D! Hah! You always pick the right textures for every wallpaper, lol *steals Tama's skill*
On to the crits: Actually there would be pretty much nothing to point out, besides the fact that this wallpaper is definetely good, lol. One thing: I am not really convinced of the "highlights" at the top of Albel's head, ok you wanted to give it luminosity but maybe you went too far with that, imo ~_^.
I remember this pic as the non finished version you linked in your MT signature. When I saw the unfinished version I was curious to know how the finished one would look like.
I think it turned out as very good. The vectoring job is very good and the scenery is not monumental but somehow cosy. All in all it is very nice work that I will add to my favourites. The texture itself is nice too but I think you overdid it a bit this time.
Another splendid work from Tama~ The bricks wall you used in it suits well. Aside of that, you seems to make the wallpaper like an old painting. Another classic Gankutsuou wallpaper :)
Amazing. You always seem to pick the right texture for all your walls. I love how you blended the vectors in the texture too. There's nothing really bad to say, I think it's wonderful. As usual, great job.
Wahh... superb vexture as always Tama! And yes, the scan looks superb... :) It makes me think nice things about Gankutsuou (although I haven't seen it)
The only thing that gets me about this wall is the uniformity of the texture that's on every aspect of the wall. It would have looked better you'd gone lighter on the texturing on the guys there entire wallpaper wouldn't look like a background. Great job on the vector and reconstruction though ^^
Nice wall, I like the series. The elementariness is what accost me. The series has many visual effects but on this it's just the clothing of the charakters. Just pretty!
Really good stuff :). Bit heavy with the grunge overlay maybe, but lovely work all the same. Quite wallpaper use friendly too - lots of icon space, etc.
I liked this episode when both of them made a little party. But the following episode was quite sad. Anyway I like the clean-ness and the shadows are nice, too. But i think the texture is a bit too much. The brown covers all nice colors in this wallpaper and less of the structure would give a nice atmosphere. The characters have some textures already, don't they?
I didn't know so much work went into this. It makes me appreciate the whole thing much more. This is one of those wallpapers which makes me glad I have Win2k so I can match the entire desktop to it. Thanks Neko!
