This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.
Hello everyone!
finally! another wall..
i made this wallpaper because i felt that there just weren't enough walls that showed kenshin in action!
i've seen this image in the scans gallery here at ap, but i just decided to vector an image i had found over at 'destiny's embrace'. i vectored it because:
a) the image was just awesome, and very worthy of a vector reproduction.
b) i could have more control over the layers.
with this wall, what i wanted was a very clean pic, with clear, sharp lines and shapes rather than gradients or smudging of any kind. and i wanted to draw a background that complemented the amazing sense of movement already present in the picture.
i was inspired to make this after seeing Shadow_Dude's ugetsu hakua wallpaper. the splattered blood was just amazing! i wanted to do something pretty much the same, using only a few colours. but since i work with a mouse, doing something that detailed, with those fine, swishy lines wasn't an option for me. and i didn't have the necessary reference either. so i did it in my own way, first manually drawing the waves, then applying cutout and turning then to paths to simplify and smooth out the lines. coz of which the water is rather 'clumpier', but it does the job. the splash near his foot was also drawn by me. i wanted to emulate david hockney's style, as seen in his acrylic painting, 'a bigger splash'. it looked a bit lonely all by itself, so i put in the ripples too. which turned out to be a very good idea as they help to 'fix' him in place, as well as enhancing the 'feel' of the force of his foot coming down on the water. the lines on the waves, the background and the colouring on the ripples all drawn manually.
the vector itself took quite some time to finish. and quite painful too...*stares at right hand*...
originally, this wall had a moon and some hills in the background. but after much evaluation, i decided to remove then as they were only taking attention away from kenshin and the splashy things. which is really sad, coz i had put in a lot of effort on them too... but then again, more doesn't always mean good. i was thinking of using red for the waves, but then i decided that waves of blood weren't 'proper' for a kenshin wallpaper.
and as always, i had trouble with the title. so i looked up 'water' in the dictionary, NoT because i didn't know the meaning!, but because i was looking for phrases with the word 'water' in them. i thought 'come hell or high water' was very appropriate.
and so there you have it! himura-san running on the water! this is for all the kenshin fans at ap. enjoy!
This wall is very very cool. The upper portion is a little too empty for my taste, but the water part is awesome, and the vectoring goes really well with the background. Kenshin's pose is really dynamic too. Even though the top part isn't working for me I think I'll fave this. The way the water and kenshin are meshing is just so right XD
Though a pool of blood would have been interesting, I like the mix of water and action. I have never seen that kind of mix, except for when depicting a sad moment with rain. Kenshin's moves don't only look deadly, but the water effect and overall cleaness of the wall makes you think of how smooth and graceful he can be. I think the only thing I'm bothered by are the lighter horizontal lines, but that could just be me. Overall, a very beautiful wall. :3
Wow, really awesome wallpaper. I love the dark areas in the clothes, it seems so smooth and real high quality, and for that matter the whole character. The background fits the character, nice choosing such an effect. Definitely a high quality wallpaper. B)
I think that Kenshin clashes a litlle bit with the water. For me though the shading affect is nice, but the font you used could've been better. Good work on the wall.
Oh, my god, I like the background a lot! Well done with it. I love it at the first sight. I love it so much. Downloading it is my support to you. Thanks. Appreciate it.
I love the water splashing happening near Kenshin's foot, and I do agree with the fact that Kenshin does clash with the color of the water, but its in a good way.
Perhaps the font chosen could have been better, but still, very awesome paper.
PS: What's up with Kenshin's gi. Haven't seen that before on him.
This is a great wallpaper, with a great color, and with a great serie, Rurouni kenshin, Great job.
Nicely vectored. one of the bestly performed vector wallpapers these days. the lines seem to have a gradient fill. it is better if you avoid that in the future. get's 9/10 XD
When I saw the thumbnail for this wallpaper, it immediately grabbed my attention. XD It certainly has a dynamic feel to it and I like how everything is so clean and sharp. However, as ShueiTenshi mentioned, the lines seem to have a gradient fill. It would probably look better if the lines were solid instead.
Also, a few minor pickings. :P The top most horizontal lines look a little odd. The one on the left looks like it was cut off abruptly, whereas the fine one above the loop of Kenshin's hair just looks out of place. I'm not too keen on the 'rk' but the other text looks pefectly fine. Regardless, I think it's a well done wallpaper and it's going into my favs. XD
Amazing *stares*. You vectorized (that is what I call a vector work :D) the scan quite well - clean lines, clear colors. The background (which I think is too something like a vector trace) is cool though I prefer more realistic ones (e.g. water like water and reflections etc). I like how you were able to create what you were thinking of - just magnificent wallpaper, dude! Good job!
Super stylis :) I love the clean abstract vector style... not usual for a Kenshin wallie. Excellent vector XD Really awesome work, and the colors and composition look great together... *kudos* XD The water specks look a little too... triangular though, it's especially noticeable in the upper left corner. And the RK... took me a while to sink through my sleep-deprived brain, and I was kinda like... RK? Like CK? Calvin Klein? Lol. So I'd actually suggest typing Kenshin out or removing it all together because I don't think you really need it. =P Otherwise... excellent job XD Keep up the great work! XD
