Ok, so I found this wonderful scan of Nina and Erstin finally getting some time together officaly. The scan caught my eye straight away, and I decided to turn it into a wallpaper. Extraction was pretty simple, used the pen tool for clean edges, gave it a 2px border around the outside, rebuilt the slight tears in the image using the smudge, clone stamp and patch tools. Took about half an hour, and I was happy with the result, so, on with the background.
But it was not so easy. It was originally suggested to me that I should creat a background with a king sized bed with unmade sheets, but my slightly sketchy style didn't match the clean lines of the scan, and I suck at drawing large folds in sheets freehand. After starting afresh more times than I care to count, including beta completed versions of the wallpaper complete with CG, I finally settled to use the pen tool for the bed, so I could get set width clean lines, and it went rather well. I would have prefered to use my tablet to draw the bed, but, ah, perhaps next time. CGed it using the tablet and added some bars top and bottom, found a good font, added that, tweaked the original scan a little using the sponge and dodge tools to bring out the more vibrant colours, and ta-da. Finished wallpaper.
