As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. I believe that some of the best artwork of DeathNote comes from the chapters themselves. mainly the first page with the chapter art.
i decided to sue one of those as my scan.
I picked a scan from one of the early chapters, in either volume 1 or 2 (i don't remember...my books are in savannah x_x). i chose this scan because it has that strick black vs white contrast that i love so much. i vectored the entire scan in illustrator, using the pen tool of course, and then created a background that i thought would suit the original scan using the same technique. i decided that a brick wall would work nicely. but just brick would have been boring, so i went for a "poster on the wall" look as well.
the poster actually says...
"KIRA is among us. Pray that your soul be saved."
to add some points of intrest, i used the whole "black and white + one color" trick, deciding on blood red as my accent color.
added some blood splatters in, and followed it up with some text as a finishing touch.
i'm pretty happy with how it came out.
i know it's not everyones cup of tea, but i'm a vector whore. so sue me xD

I love this vector like nothing else it totally owns! The contrasting colors work brilliantly together I can�??t think of anything more suitable. The fact that you did this all in AI with the pent tool totally amazes me you got insane skills :O *is jealous xD* Everything from the BG to the colors to the vector work out just perfectly. I was drawn in by the thumbnail and the fact that it is done by you Kalico, I knew it had to be good because I think all the wallpapers that I have seen of yours always are a very high quality and this is no exception. Wooow.....creepy but AWSOME!! The wall is awsome, creepy, nice, cool, enjoyfull, & great!! The charcters are nice..the monster is creepy but cool... The colors are great eventough there are a lot black & white!! The vectoring is INCREDIBLE, absolutely incredible, cool, & awsome!! The fonts are Death Note's style...& that's cool!! Wow, its my first reaction. I love the vectoring, I wished i had this type of talent, oh I need much needed practice. I love the contrast especially the mixture of the black and white wiht the red. Maybe its me but this reminds me of some old graphic novels, about spies and the mob; maybe similar with sin city novels. All i know is that this wall is really awesome. Love the effect on the title too, the text layering over the title looks reall unique. Overall, good work! ++ fave.

Let me start off by saying I hate vectored wallpapers, and I hate black + white + red wallpapers (it's always red, bah). Furthermore, in my opinion, almost all of the DeathNote wallpapers in this site has never come close to doing the manga any justice.

But what you've created... I absolutely love it. I've been going to animepaper for several weeks now looking for a wallpaper that surpasses my standards, and I believe yours has done just that. Finally, someone who realizes that the best scans came from the chapters themselves! Ugh, and I just can't get over the captions. It fits the story so damned well! It's only a shame that the poster's text is covered by Ryuuk and the shadows. Although some of the blood splatters on the wall seem out of place (like that patch of blood on the tip of the S), it still works well.

Another little suggestion I might make is to make the shade of red darker to more closely resemble blood. A dead body or a bloody hand-smear, perhaps? Hehe.

Excellent work! Hopefully, this is a start for more well-made death note walls.

An excellent wallpaper, I really like how the black and whit elements are offset by the splashs of red. The concept and layout are really amazing (I'm a sucker for black and white wallpapers) and I really like what you did with the text. I know I'm a complete addict to your walls, but I'm still going to have to give this a favorite.

I am digging this wallpaper. This kind of style that uses only black and white as colours and plays with contrast reminds me of the old american comic books of the 60's/70's era, and as a more recent reference it reminds of Sin City's style. Really slick. My only small complaint is that the splatter at the top seems a bit randomly placed, and also, if the splatters are meant to be blood splatters, I would have used a darker tone of red since blood isn't that bright, but I do understand that you probably made it like it to increase the contrast even more. And no, you're not losing your touch or whatever you might think, just keep doing what you like and give a sweet middle finger to the public opinion. :P

There are way too little Death Note wallpapers and the art is so good. Yup I like how it contrasts too.
But I don't like the blood stuff...but then again, it would look weird without some other colors...
