Motoko skydiving over Bangkok! You'd probably call this a 'scenic' wallpaper.
This one started with the background. It is a creative commons photo of Bangkok from flickr, I did some major curves adjustment, desaturation, color shifting and smartblurring. Then some diffuse glow to make the lights glow a bit. The anime is drawn pretty accurately so I just wanted to remove the texture from things, but keep the realistic look.
Luckily I found a nice scan of the Major, I extracted and then added some 'vapor trails' to make her stand out from the night.
For the typography, I wanted to keep it simple without overpowering, if you like your walls with no text, it's all black underneath, so it's easy to remove the text yourself.
