100% painted in Photoshop (yes everything including the characters) based on 2 screenshots below which were traced and used as references:
Jubei - Utsutsu
Bamboo forest
This is the scene of the classic Ninja Scroll duel between Kibagami Jubei (in brown) and a blind samurai Mujuro Utsutsu (in white). I thought Utsutsu is very admirable even though he's one of the bad guys. Ninja Scroll is such an awesome anime, one of my all time favs, go watch it!! (<-- if you're over 18yrs-old ^^;;)
I actually meant the scene to be like as if the guys are still in the middle of a fight and scared the birds off, which they might also have slashed some of the leaves that's why they're falling. Anyways, I'm trying to be funny at the same time, picking on John Woo movies with his trademark white doves XD
Well, this is my entry for MT's Paint-o-rama 1st contest with the theme of feudal Japan with vegetation component. The era of choice is Sengoku/Tokugawa as explained here http://www2.hawaii.edu/~dfukushi/Jubei.html
I never thought I would ever finish this wall since nailing the concept 4-6 weeks ago, but in the midst of procrastinating from organising my wedding and being unemployed, this wall is indeed a nice surprise after a solid day of work (~8-10hrs).
Overall I'm thrilled with the way it turned out given such a short working time from start to finish, but on the other hand it's kinda nothing special since it's pretty much just combining and recreating the screenshots. :hmpf:
Hope you like it!
