So what's up with this wall?
Created for the purposes of Round 1 of Pool Party 2008 as you can see in my oversized signature.
Pool Party
I was on team Achromatic, which meant we we're required to use only black and white on our submissions. Obviously the one I'm submitting here was not the one I submitted to the contest as there's color here.
So let's break down this wall:
Originally I had planned to do something dealing with the different phases of the day and all that jazz so I started out trying to paint that. This is where that subtle blue > purple > black gradient thing comes from.
Since the solstice is supposedly the longest day of the year I had a wacky idea for a calender that would show the same date over and over again like it was never ending.
The sun beams were inspired by the pictures of the Japanese Rising Sun.
The typography is designed to be trendy and aimed to be like a poster. It's very reminiscent of advertisements you'd see for Techno Parties/Raves
I thought the scan was hot and the vector flower thing to be a good way to integrate her with the rest of the wall.

So yeah like I was totally listening to "CSS - Music is my hot hot sex" and it just gave me soo much insight into how hot I could make a wall.
These lyrics say it all.

Even though I know you know that you and I hate stats I'm going to post them here anyway.
Number of Layers: 58
Brushes/effects/techniques used: hdr bloom effect, painting, textures, vectoring

Time spent: 3 weeks
Personal judgement on how effectively the piece achives the original concepts: It looks nothing like what I envisioned when I started this project.

Theme: Summer Solstice.
June 20th marks the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the longest day of the year. Your goal is to wall this. How you do this is up to you; it can be literal or metaphorical. Keep in mind you won’t be getting a change to explain yourself, so make sure this reads as well as possible.
